Shoes?

My boyfriend and I are not technically engaged yet, but we are already talking about what our ideal wedding would be. We know we want an outdoor wedding.

My issue is that my boyfriend is almost a foot taller than me. I need to add a couple inches to my height - we don't want the kiss looking totally awkward! I was looking at the cutest heels and then I realized I would sink right into the grass standing at the 'altar' for 20 minutes. The ground in mid-missouri never gets really hard.

What are some of you planning, or what have you done? Did you have this issue?

Re: Shoes?

  • How have I not heard of these! Thank you SO much BecW2be!

  • You could also do wedges. That's what I'm planning for my outdoor wedding because I had the same fear!
  • Honestly? There's a substantial height difference between DH and I, but I wore flats anyway. They weren't quite platforms, but they were thicker than usual, which helped. I thought it would look far more awkward if I sank into the ground or tripped, and in the end it worked out just fine.
  • This is a common concern from Brides. An elegant shoe is always worth it. I like the heel stopper idea! My only caution is that you may not be too used to being on stilts. So you should practice walking around in them - alot - before the ceremony. Looking really wobbly in stilts won't look good either. Better to be in a good shoe and look confident and gorgeous. The height won't matter.

  • Eh, a height difference is just part of you two being a couple. You should just embrace it. If you are in love, your kiss will not look awkward. Flats will look fine. However, another option could be wedges.

Or don't have your wedding on grass. Some facilities have paved outside areas, pavilions, etc. that are outside yet on firm ground. Just because you are outside doesn't mean you have to be on grass.
  • These are equally as awesome and are available at lots of stores throughout the US:

  • I think you can still wear flats. My fiance and I are getting married on the beach. He is about 6'2" while I'm only 5'4". I plan on going barefoot. You are going to be absolutely beautiful in your dress....not a single person is going to be thinking your kiss looks awkward....they'll just be happy to be there with you on your big day!!
  • We are wearing high heel wedges.

Check them out we are getting Lilly Satin style

We are price shopping because these are pretty pricey.
  • I am getting married on the beach, so no heels for me, and there is a foot and a half difference between the two of us (5'4" and 6'9").  I'm not worried about it.  I'll put heels on for the pictures and the first dance, but other than that, I'll be in no shoes or flats.  Don't worry about it!  Do what you feel comfortable doing!
  • I am about a foot shorter than my fiance, too.  We are getting married in a horse barn (it's much cleaner and nicer than that sounds!) which has a "floor" of sand.  He actually asked if he could build a platform for us to stand on so I wouldn't sink in my heels during the ceremony.  I hadn't even thought about it yet!  Awww... isn't he sweet? ;)
