Destination outdoor wedding help!

Hey ladies! My hubby and I are already married and we're having a ceremony next year at my family's cabin in the Uinta mountains. The closest city to it is Evanston, WY and that's about an hour away, and the cabin is about 2 1/2 hours away from our home. I'm wondering if any of you have been in this situation before. I'm at a loss of what I should do about a photographer, caterer, seating, the cake....keep in mind it's an hour out of the way of the closest city and it's up a very steep dirt/gravel road. I just need some advice on what I should do!

Re: Destination outdoor wedding help!

  • All you can do is call and ask if they are willing to travel that far.

I know that my wedding was out in the country (40 minutes outside my city) although we were still within "city limits".  Each vendor asked the location and none of them had an issue with it.  My photographer mentioned that he was willing to drive "x" many miles (I can't remember now) over the course of the day to hit all the different locations but if we went over that amount he would ask for an extra $30 or $50 for gas.

I know that caterers generally have no issues travelling, and rental companies don't either unless the road is unpassable for their trucks.  With respect to the cake I'm not sure - you may be able to find a baker in the area close to your cabin.  Or you could go with something more stable ( a single tier or sheet cake) and have a family member transport it in for you.
  • You say you're already married-are you having a vow renewal?  How many people are you inviting?  If you are having a smaller, more intimate ceremony, would the seating at the cabin (couches, chairs, etc.) handle all your guests?

As PP stated, most vendors are willing to travel (albeit sometimes for a fee). Sometimes they have a set fee, and sometimes they can be negotiated.

I would just make sure you give any vendors travelling to the cabin clear directions, and prepare them for the steep gravel road so they can take any necessary precautions (especially with the cake).
