Ball gown at an outdoor wedding?

Hi!
I've been engaged almost 2 years and it has taken me as long to find a gown I absolutely love. When I found it, we had not yet chosen a location for our wedding. I bought it on a whim because I just... I don't know how to explain it, but the dress is perfect! Well, we just chose to wed in my Grandma's backyard. It is definitely not a mansion or anything of the sort, but it is beautiful and is very special to us.

My question is... would a ballgown be way too much for an outdoor wedding? I can't imagine giving up my dress, but I can't imagine giving up the location either!

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Ball gown at an outdoor wedding?

  • I personally believe that a bride should wear whatever she wants. Some will disagree and say dress should fit venue, but I don't think that is the case. In all the weddings I have been to in my life, I have never thought "oh that dress is so inappropriate for this venue" about a bride's dress choice. Like I said, I personally don't think it matters. I honestly think people will just focus on how beautiful and happy you look rather than judging your choice of dress.

    Good luck!!
  • I wore a ballgownish dress for our outdoor wedding. Check out my married bio!
  • Thanks SamanthaJean... My family keeps telling me it is my day and to do what I want but for some reason it just didn't look right in my head!
MrsDudley.... your pics are beautiful! Makes me much less uncomfortable about the idea of my dress outdoors! :)

  • Wear what you love!  My gown is formal with a semi-cathedral train and I'm wearing it outside.

  • My gown was considered a ball gown (although I didn't wear a slip that made it very full like most people do) and I had an outdoor wedding.  Pics in my married bio.

  • My dress is an A-line, wouldn't go as far to call it a full Ball Gown, but it's still pretty big - wear what you want!! Just keep in mind that if it may be hot out when/where you're getting married, your choice in a dress might want to reflect that!

I still didn't care.. it's one of the hottest parts of the summer when we're getting married, and I still have a big dress Cool

  • I'm having a ball gown also. I'm having an outdoor ceremony, but my reception is inside in a ballroom. And yes, it doesn't matter what kind of location you have. It is YOUR special day and you shall wear whatever you want to wear!!! :)
