Outdoor Weddings

When is the rose petal throw for an outdoor wedding?

Hi ladies,

We are having our ceremony outside at a winery, followed by an indoor reception at a different location.  We would like to have our guests throw rose petals for us, but I have no idea when that would be done!  How does this work at an outdoor wedding?

I have only seen the throwing done at a church wedding, where everyone waits outside the church for the couple to walk out together.  How does this work when there is nowhere to walk out of?  What will you ladies be doing?

Thank you for your help!

  • We got married outside on a terrace, and like you, had no where for guests to really line up and throw things at us so we just skipped it. Everyone stood and clapped and cheered while we walked back down the aisle, then we just stood by the doors leading inside and did the receiving line.

  • What if you gave them to everyone with the programs and did it as you were coming back down the asile?  You could get some gorgous pictures.

  • I'm having an outdoor wedding as well.  Our reception is at the same site, but I think we are going to do a grand exit and have some pics elsewhere.  I think we just plan to have people line up heading to the "get away" car.
  • I'm having an outdoor wedding as well and my reception is going to be at the same location. I've seen several weddings where they did the petal toss as the couple was walking back down the aisle and thought it looked so pretty, so that's what I decided to do. I'm going to make cones for the petals and have my ushers hand them out as they seat people. I also plan on making a not in my programs so that people actually know what to do with the petals. I've also seen some weddings that did bubbles and thought that looked really neat too. Good luck deciding what to do!
    I'm married!
  • Thank you so much! :)
