Aisle Runner Help

I am getting married outside and I am debating about getting an aisle runner. I don't want my dress to get dirty and I'm not sure if you can use any type of runner oustide or if it would get ruined itself.

Thanks
Tracy

Re: Aisle Runner Help

  • Aisle runners tend to be just a huge tripping hazard for your guests, your bridesmaids, and you.  We skipped one and I have absolutely no regrets about it.  Your dress likely will get a little dirty, but it will be on the underside and shouldn't be visible the rest of the day.  Putting the runner down likely won't even entirely prevent this though.  You will still be taking photos and walking around with it on when you get dressed and during the reception.  It is likely to get a little dingy on the underside just from this.

On top of that, I had someone step on the train of my dress during the receiving line.  The ground was soft and I had a muddy shoe print on my dress.  I used shout wipes to make it slightly better before the reception but it was clearly still there.  I used www.wedclean.comto have my dress cleaned and they did such a wonderful job cleaning my dress that I cannot even see this now.  Any reputable cleaner will be able to clean the underside of your dress after your wedding day.

  • I agree with PP, I would be afraid that people would trip over it, also if you decide to have someone roll it out before you walk down the isle, I would bet that you will for sure trip/get your shoes stuck in it.

If you really have your heart set on one, please use some type of boards under it. I saw another knottie that had put plywood down under the walkway and then put an isle runner, I would say if you really want one that is your best bet. You can cover all of the wood and it would be easy to cover.

  • IMO Aisle Runners are a huge pain and uncessary expense.  They don't unroll well, guests trip, ladies heels poke through the runner, it blows in the wind, it gets dirty.

I think that getting the underside of your dress dirty is the price of an outdoor wedding... and an aisle runner won't help too much.

  • My niece is getting married outdoors.  She asked that I help coordinate the decorations, etc.  Her parents have bought one item on their own.. a runner!  I don't have the heart to tell them their purchase probably isn't the best, lol.  I'm thinking of tacking it down with tent stakes, having it rolled out before the ceremony.  Guests will be seated from the side "aisle" and the center aisle will have tulle going down the sides of the chairs to make seating from the center not an option.  Hopefully the tent stakes will help keep the runner flat and trip-free.
  • I'm having an outdoor wedding and I want an aisle runner.  We picked out an outdoor fabric and we are going to staple the fabric to plywood.  This way it will be nice and smooth and our heels will not sink into the grass.  After the wedding I'm going to use the fabric to make outdoor pillows for our patio furniture.  This way we can have a great keepsake.
