Outdoor Weddings

If it rains...

I am trying to figure out how to word my rain cards.  We are going to have about 150 guests for an outdoor ceremony/ indoor reception.  I don't want to do the ceremony indoors if it rains.  They will have to move the tables etc.  I think it will be too crazy and awkward to walk down an "aisle" of tables.

We reserved the biggest tent that would fit in outdoor the space for a backup.  We will only have it put up if it is going to rain. This tent only holds about 120 people.  How do I let people know they are welcome to come to the ceremony (and maybe bring an umbrella) OR they can show up for the reception and stay dry (and we won't be offended)?

I was thinking about this:

In case of rain an intimate ceremony will be held under a tent at (same location same time).  Please join us indoors to celebrate the day at (time).

I am open to any ideas!

Re: If it rains...

  • I actually ended up canceling a venue that I liked very much because of logistics in case of rain.  I hope yours works out for you!
  • We are getting married at the start/finish line of a nascar track(no race events that day or weekend).  Our backup plan is the garages in case of rain.  But, it is NOT NOT NOT NOT gonna rain!

  • We are having our ceremony outside and then hosting the reception inside a tent, but if it rains we are just going to go with the flow and hand out umbrellas. Our wedding ceremony is only going to be about 15 minutes or so long and our families both agreed that standing outside in the rain wouldn't kill anyone, in fact it might be a cute setting.

The only problem the rain would cause would be at the cocktail hour... we are having it in a small tent right next to the big reception tent. We figured that would keep the non-drinkers a little bit away from the drinkers, but we were assuming people would get their drinks and relax in the seating area that surrounds the tent (uncovered).
So, in case of rain we just added a caution page to our website that notes that there will be transportation to a local bar (which could hold our 250+ guests) so that no one has to be tortured through an hour of standing in the rain...However, we are praying for no rain because that would suck to transfer that many people...Sealed
