Canary Islands vs. South Pacific

Anyone have any input on the Canary Islands or the South Pacific Islands for a honeymoon spot?  These are kind of our final two choices and we want to book before the new year.

Any input on either is appreciated :)

Re: Canary Islands vs. South Pacific

  • We honeymooned in Fiji last year and it was definitely the trip of a lifetime. We stayed at Qamea Resort & Spa, but if we could go back and do it again, we'd island hop a little and stay at more than one resort. That's our biggest regret. Once you get all the way out there, you should explore more. Lots of pics in my married bio under the HM tab.

We booked through South Seas Adventures.

  • The Canaries are definitely very different from the destinations in the South Pacific. The Canaries will offer a lot more in the way of nightlife and a more European experience, but with a beach. A lot will depend on your budget, but I have been to both Fiji and Tahiti (several times to Tahiti) and love going there!! I won't bother listing all of the places I've stayed there, since it's been quite a few, but let me know if you have any questions about the islands!

  • The budget isn't really a factor...it's more about the flight time!  We don't want to spend a day and a half on an airplane to fly halfway around the world the morning after our wedding day.  That's the reason we've considered the Canary Islands at all :)

Thanks for the input - but the flight time is a little challenging for us to head to French Polynesia.  Anyone else have feedback on the Canary Islands?  We are looking at Tenerife (perhaps a Mare Nostrum Resort) or Fuerteventura...thoughts?
