Outdoor Weddings

citronella candles and bugs

Hi Girls,

I am having an outdoor wedding, both ceremony and reception in two and a half weeks.  I have been looking for unscented citronella candles to put on the tables.  Does anyone know where I can find them?  I have seen wedding themed citronella candles, but nothing saying if they are unscented or not.
Do citronella candles work at keeping gnats away or just mosquitos?

Thanks so much!
J

  • wow i just got it 4 times.
  • I always thought what made citronella candles keep the bugs away was the scent.  Wouldn't an unscented citronella candle be pretty much the same as a regular unscented candle?

<div>Yes, exactly. The scent is what is keeping the bugs away. If you are worried about the scent you should try some other type of insect repellent. </div>
  • Idk... But congrats!

  • A suggestion...

You could try calling your local pest control company to see if they have any ideas...
Sometmes they can do a treatment for certain pests in the outdoor area and sometimes it won't be evident on your wedding day ( chemical smell)...be careful with chemicals if they do it, they can inform you about pets etc when you contact them. Its hard for a pest control company to control a flying pest though, especially outdoors...they have to put the chemical ON something...and flying bugs are in the air.

Citronella candles need the smell to get rid of the little pests....internet research will tell you if they control gnats also..

    have a great wedding day
