Old Hollywood idea for FG basket?

The wicker/woven baskets at Joann's and Michael's just aren't gonna cut it. ;)

I was thinking about making a petal cone with a handle for FG to carry, and make it from some pretty patterned paper or something, but I can't find any paper I like and my mom doesn't think we could make it big enough to hold enough flowers anyway.

What else could we use? My mom suggested maybe a glass basket (she has a few) but I'd like a few other ideas in case the glass baskets are too heavy. DD is my FG - she's six and pretty tall/strong for her age, but I don't want her to be afraid of breaking something and be nervous going down the aisle. This will be her third time being a FG so she won't be nervous in general, but carrying something breakable just might change that.

TIA!

  • A good way to find more paper options is to check out wallpaper books at a hardware or paint/wallpaper supply store. They have so many options of beautiful designs. Wallpaper can easily be used in place of paper--just don't wet the back. Many times it's not too expensive to order just one roll.

Another alternative could be to try a pomander and dress it up with pearls or other beads like the pic below to give it a more glamourous look.

  • Thanks vintagefx - we tried to sell the pomander idea to DD but she cried when she thought she wouldn't get to actually toss any flowers.... fail. lol
  • Maybe she could have the petals in a vintage hat box?  There may be a few logistics issues to work out, but I think it sounds pretty damn cute.
  • i vote for the hatbox idea, sounds adorable!

  • Why not make a large paper box (origami).  There are lots to choose from (google is your friend).  That will allow you to use that pretty paper and let you hold a lot more flowers than a simple cone.

  • I think a top hat would be awesome for the old Hollywood glam thing. :)
  • I like the hat idea. You could also be creative and make your own by getting a tin bucket or really anything solid to hold and decorate it with film strips or negatives from a camera roll and get hollywood lettering. Or even not put the lettering.  You could also make it a gold hollywood star holder.  Just ideas...
  • Thanks for all of the ideas, folks! Not sure which we'll end up going with, but we'll see what we can come up with. I think they're all too cute! Thanks again!
