Old Hollywood Glam

Hola everybody!

I have been on the knot for awhile now but this is my first attempt at the boards.

Our Wedding is 7/10/2010. We are having an Old Hollywood nightclub theme and urging guests to dress to the theme of old holly wood glam.

We are holding it in a local state parks garden which holds special meaning for me.
It is a VERY DIY wedding. From flowers to food I am doing most of it. Don't have the funds to hire caterers and florists. I am pretty creative when I put my mind to it.

I did however order the cake from a repitable bakery.....wasn't going that diasterous route.

One special part of the ceremony is we are having a blended family ceremony as I have a young son we really want to include. Has anyone out there had experience with this. We want to include him into the vows where he takes vows as well. We also want to give him a gift of a medallion or pendant. Anyone with experience your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Old Hollywood Glam

  • My girlfriend entered into a marriage where the groom already had a daughter. During the ceremony something to the effect of not only a bride and groom joining their lives but that they were all a family and joining lives. They had a special necklace presented during the vows which had birthstones from the bride, groom and daughter incorporated into a necklace. So, she was acknowledged as a part of the family and it was super sweet. She didn't say anything really - just hugged the bride and groom and listened as the officiant gave the family speech.
  • I've seen on one of those wedding shows where the groom had 4 kids and each kid wrote their own vows about how happy they are that the family is growing and that they are excited to be getting a mom as great as the bride was, etc. etc.

Also one of my co-workers got married last year and both her and the groom had kids and they did a sand ceremony where the bride and groom poured their sand then each kid took turns pouring some in to signify the joining of the two families.

Not sure if this helps but its some ideas.

  • My boy is 6 going on 16 sometimes!

But we decided to get him a pendant that signifies our family union. He will take part in the vows as well.

He will be very Dapper in his little suit and Fedora. He is also walking me down the aisle. He is very excited about this. We have been practicing.

My mother suggested something. We are having a dessert table with finger desserts like petit fours, and mini tarts. Also we will have a sugar free section for our Diabetic attendies. We have Small favor boxes to place on the table so people may place their choice of desserts home in the boxes as favors.

What do you gals think about this?
  • When my fiance's mother got re-married he was about 12 years old and he said some vows at their ceremony. From what I understand, it was mainly about honoring his new step-dad and their new relationship. They gave him a ring to wear afterwards as well so he was able to have a pretty big part in their big day. So maybe a ring wouldn't be great for a younger son but I think a pendant or some kind of reminder of that day and everyone's new life together would be perfect. I know my fiance greatly appreciated being included in the transition.

  • I just can't do what his father did and not include him in the wedding. I really don't see how anyone could do that to a child...A wedding of a parent changes their whole life. They should be able to share in the day with their parents.

My son did go but he was not invited. My Ex's mother who had him for the day. (my ex made it seem like it was a day with grandma..but I had my suspicions) She decided to take him to the wedding despite what her son or his then fiance thought. My son ended up wrapped around his fathers leg growling at his bride every time she spoke (he was 3). So I guess maybe he was involved...but it's the unwanted part that irks me.
