Retro and Vintage Weddings

Question

For conversation sake.....and my own curious mind.I've been googling and looking up the difference, but when is it retro and when is it vintage? Is there a year or era cutoff date? Is it all in the details and how far you take it? What's your opinion? Thanks!

Re: Question

  • I was wondering the same thing.  I would say that the 50's are in that strange "could be retro OR vintage" stage, WWII and prior are vintage, and 60's-80's are retro.  ....maybe?
  • I think you are right on with that line of thinking....I think I tend to think the same way.

  • I totally agree with the pp although its sad to think of the 80's as retro or vintage. sigh.
  • I work a photo studio, and there is this photo coloring called "retro color", but in some programs its called "vintage color", so I think they are interchangeable. However, I feel personally that vintage is before Vietnam. And retro is anything after that.
  • When I need to differentiate...for theming sake...lol Vintage is classic, simple, elegant, understated, antique-y, beautiful, kinda Victorian...but in a more simple 40s and 50s way if that makes any sense... Retro is cool, funky, old fashioned, soda pop diner type stuff, polka dots, T-birds, red lipstick, and Bettie Page Vintage is glamorous and Retro is "glam". Am I making sense? lol I like a combo of the two...but I'm more on the Vintage side of things.
  • I agree with DiorAndKisses. Vintage is classic and retro is trendy, but both are from previous decades/eras.
