Painting mason jars

Ladies i need some help from you!

I want to paint my quart size mason jars white and then paint black numbers on them for my table numbers...but i suck at spray painting. I tried one and it came out all drippy and stuff and it looked horrible.

Any suggestions of something else i can do for them? idk if maybe i should just fill them with white sand and then put the numbers on them that way with a candle embedded in the sand? That way i could just paint the number on the jar and then be all done. Let me know what you think or if you have other ideas!

I would try the spraypainting again.  It's getting drippy because you're concentrating the spray too much.  Hold the spray can further from the bottle, let that thin coat dry, and do it again.  Three coats should do it.  :)

  • I agree, just stand about three feet away from the jar when you paint it. Then, paint the black number on. When it's all done, you're going to want to spray a sealant on them as well, or they will chip and rub off easily. It's hard painting glass, but don't give up. If all else fails, I would suggest putting about a cup to two cups of white paint  inside of the jar,  closing it up real tight, then shaking it until all the sides are covered. Make sure you set it upside down to dry. Use a thick paint, that dries quickly. Ask family/ friends/ neighbors if they have any leftover white housepaint.

  • I found a tutorial to paint them with a transparent paint specifically for glass...

  • It sounds like it will be very pretty in the end! I agree with pps. You need to do several very light coats. You won't get drips if the layers are light enough. If you are having trouble getting a thin even coat don't worry. Just let each coat dry and then add another. Don't try to go back and even each layer out. They will start to look even as you add more layers.
