birdcage veils

Is anyone else wearing or considering a bird cage veil?  I found a website that I wanted to share -- they offer veils in a variety of styles that are completely customizable:  http://www.unveiledbridaldesigns.com/index.html I love that they let you pick out the feathers, buttons, beads, flowers, etc for the comb, and I think the veils can be dyed different colors, too.  A lot of good inspriation in the "galleries" section, too.

  • I am! I bought mine from Artikal Millenry

    http://www.artikal.com/bridal.htm

She's based in the East VIllage in NYC, so I actually went and tried them on. But I'm pretty sure she does a brisk internet business. And she's awesome. =)
  • Me too me too! These are great inspiration pics. I want to make my own birdcage veil and fascinator. I'm thinking of making the fascinator out of an antique brooch I have laying around and some feathers. There are really good instructions all over the internet on how to DIY it. I saw this one birdcage veil done in red on Ruffled, and I about died. The bride's dress was almost gold, and she had beautiful red hair. It looked amazing, but I don't think I could pull it off.

  • I am DIYing mine. But it has been so hard to find the netting I want at a decent price. No local stores have it so online is my only option. Last weekend I went to my bridal expo and I was looking at a GORGEOUS birdcage veil. But it was $85 and I just cant spend that much on a veil. I am cheap :( So the designer came over and I told her my dilemma and she sad she would send me everything i need for $20 including shipping. In the "kit" I got rhinestones, glue, the netting, and the hair. I will have to add my own feathers and flowers or whatever for a fascinator. I was finding netting around the same price online and to ship it. YAY!! I have tried making it yet (just got it this morning) but I will post pics when done :)

ps for all you diyer out there. you have to buy a large amount of netting because they cut it by the yard which is in no shape for a veil. I bought some first and returned it because it mas too rectangular to do anything or the style i am going for at least
  • I thought about DIYing, but I'm afraid of messing it up!  I do have some time before I have to order a veil (my wedding is in August), so maybe I'll give it a try.  Alyssa & Kitkat, I'd love to see how yours turn out.  Is there a good website for instructions that you plan to use?

Not sure if this is the right kind of netting, but I found this at Joann fabrics:  http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat2962&PRODID=prd7200

  • I love birdcage veils! I'm not doing one though, just doesn't work on me :-\ And I really love my cathedral veil anyway.
  • Robotcake- yeah, I think it would work, but I would check it out in person, because nylon might feel plastic-ey. I'm really weird about stuff though. I can't stand things that don't feel nice. I can't even wear makeup that doesn't smell nice. I'm very picky about strange things. But as far as the look, I think that's about what you would want. I plan on using some combination of knottie buttaflai's bio (<--clicky) (I love her wedding, totally not my style, but her DIY projects and sense of design blow me away. She has instructions for both a veil and a fascinator) and this tutorial (<-- 'nother clicky) to make mine. Don't be afraid to screw it up, the nice part is you can keep futzing with it until you're happy.

  • I am definitely wearing a birdcage. I don't even have my dress picked out yet and I know that is what I want to wear. I just found a great seller on etsy who sells them for like $10-$15! So I am going to get my veil from her and then either DIY my fasinator or pray for a sale on the most perfect one ever!  haha
