Newbie and Just got engaged! Modern/Vintage Wedding

Hello All!

I just got engaged and new to everything weddings! My FI and I had talked about when we got married we would go to Graceland and get married in the Chapel In The Woods because we are both big Elvis Fans (Me...just a tad bit more than him lol). He proposed to me with a Vintage/Modern ring and I love it because that's exactly our personalities. I wanted to have a wedding just like us (vintage/modern) but I have no idea where to start. I found the perfect vintage style dress (I haven't gotten it yet but know what I want). 

Another thing is that we are trying to save up for a house and don't want to spend that much, we already agreed that the budget would be $7, 000-10. Could any of you please share ideas with me? I don't know what colors to use too but we are thinking about an August wedding (preferably August 16th) and I want to go for some soft pastels for the colors so it has a 50s look. I just don't know where to start! Please help

Congratulations!  That '50s theme sounds awesome.  What you really need to do though is look at the bigger priced items, like what catering for a reception would cost, how many guests you'll have, etc. and set a budget.    Then everything else can follow.  You can play nothing but '50s music, rock a birdcage veil and/or pill box hat, and wear pearls (real or faux).  You can have a soda pop bar.  Look through pinterest for '50s wedding ideas.  Etsy is a GOLDMINE for Save the Dates and invitations like:

Thank you! That's what I am going to start with, I kind of like the idea of a canopy/tent and my brother is in a Marine Band so I am going to try to see if he can play instead of hire musicians. Do you have anymore vintage/modern ideas for me?

If you are looking for a fresh mix of vintage and modern, you should take a look at New Wave Vintage that is starting to come through in wedding design. Blending of vintage elements with fresh and brights pops of colour, paired with wide stripes or chevrons. check out a couple episodes of mad men to get ideas. pay attention to set props and art on the walls to see what you might want at decorations. also draw inspiration from the costuming so that you can dress your bridal party to suit the theme
