Re: vintage invitation eye candy

  • I have never received anything other than a boring old protocol-dictates-this-exact-item sort of thing. If I had ever received one of those other ones I would know right off that was something unique and potentially quite interesting and fun.

I know my SIL will have kittens when she gets mine (which have yet to be determined, but will NOT be run-of-the-mill). She's a real stickler for precise and linear social discourse, from which deviation will not be tolerated. The mental image of the expression on her face alone makes it worthwhile.

I love the handkerchief ones--I have never seen anything like that. It's not right for me, but it's excellent.

  • I have no idea what I'm going to be able to do yet. I haven't approached the diner I want to use yet because we don't have a date. We don't have a date because FI has to get through the immigration hoops first, and we have no way to predict when that will be. Could be 3 months, could be 6 months, 9 months...You can't book anything.

Ideally I would like to use a print of the diner on the front--I've had a print of it for several years in my kitchen, and I intend to approach the artist for permission if I can use the diner image.

http://www.dinerdon.com/listofdiners/index.html (I have eaten at a number of these!)

On the back some retro font with the details. And I'd like the response card to reflect a diner menu thing. But again, without details, I can't be sure what that would be yet.

If the diner thing goes awry, we'll have to move to plan B. Which doesn't exist yet. There is a cool old movie theater in my town and I was having a blast looking at these photos (image heavy, long to load: http://www.stephaniejamescouture.com/blog/?p=1723 ). I have to say the gals in Steph James Audry dresses are my kind of gals... I'll bet I could get my theater. But I don't know about food with that.

I'd be open to other vintage/historical buildings in my town. But it's hardly worth investigating until I have an actual date.

Do share yours when you commit too!

  • Ick we're doing the immigration nightmare too it stinks. Although if we marry abroad, which is another reason we picked our location, then they can come in on a temp visa which is almost instant approval with a marriage license. So YAY for that.

Anyway back on topic, thanks for sharing Nukke and I'll post as I get my stuff together. Its still early for me.

  • This got me looking for fonts that match my diner and/or period. I found this fun stuff:

    http://www.fontspace.com/category/1950s

These don't match the sign on my diner, but some of them are sweet and may do fine for some of the text I want to use. One thing I'd very much like to do is one of those photos with the couple holding "Thank" "You" signs.

One of the heavy ones like Remarcle might be great for Thank-you.

I love the sparkly atomic one.

Several of them are quite fun. Retrobats cracked me up.

Anyone else have other sources of these?
