Gloves

I asked this on my local board, then hit myself over the head realizing that my vintage girls will know the answer! I have been thinking about wearing gloves to complete my Victorian feel, but they make the ring exchange complicated. I know that Victorians used to loosen the seams, but if any of you know what works best, please let me know!

Re: Gloves

  • I wore long gloves for my first wedding. What I did was cut a a slit into the glove and took my finger out when we exchanged rings. I had a problem getting my finger back in afterward though, I think I gave up and put it back on after the ceremony.

I'm sure there is a better way to do this though.

I'm planning on wearing gloves, too, and I'm doing the snippidy snip for my ring finger also.  You snip the underseam of the glove, not the top, does that make sense?  So if you slipped your finger out, you're slipping it out from the underside, and the loose glove finger sits atop your free finger.  Then you can slip it back in descreetly after wards, or just take the gloves off entirely.

If you're wearing short gloves, though, you can simply slip your hand right out of the glove.  That's perfectly acceptable.

Also, a little glove etiquette.  You should wear your gloves during the formal/fancy bits of your wedding and generally whenever you are planning on touching someone elses hands, or when you'll be in church.  For example, during the ceremony, formal photographs, receiving line and the important dances at the reception.  When you take off your gloves, you always hold them in your left hand so you can shake hands with your right (should you choose to do this ungloved).
