1950's Family NOT Rockabilly

My fiance and I really enjoy the whole 1950's stepford family style, but when we look for clothes and things everything looks too rockabilly. Our ceremony is going to be outside, and we would like our reception to be at a park with a 1950's family potluck/BBQ type theme.

Does anyone have any creative ideas for the BBQ or any ways to keep it from looking rockabilly?

Our colors are a slightly pale (but not pastel) orange with a slightly pale (but again not pastel) green, we're hoping that will help since most rockabilly is red/blue/black.

  • i think the pastel would really help. I would get my inspiration from old 1950's tv, your theme sounds very june cleaver/betty crocker. I get a mental picture of this

maybe find food presentation ideas from things like old betty crocker cook books, scour antique stores for charming old serving bowls and dishes to place the meal on. using your softer color palette I think this will be easy to pull off without going rock a billy

  • swing dance would be great, maybe some classic chubby checker/land of a thousand dances twist music, oldies of all kinds would be great
decore, paper lanterns, string lights. simple but festive would touch the theme
