receiving line?

Is anyone else doing one?
when/where?

I'd really like to do one, but I'm a tiny bit unsure as to WHERE they are.  At my cousins wedding, there was a receiving line leading into the reception after the cocktail hour.  But that sort of spoiled the big entrance.

Are the receiving lines typically right outside the ceremony site/church?  Like... before the rice is thrown?  Please enlighten your less-than-wise mod because she's too lazy to navigate japanese google today.

Oh, I thought I'd also throw in a little tricky situation of mine here.  We've got about an hour gap after the ceremony before the start of the cocktail hour.  The ceremony is about a 5 minute walk from the cocktail hour/reception hall.  The reception hall is also on the mail floor of an inn where all the guests will be staying, and has a big porch and lots of lounge areas.  Should we do the receiving line right outside the church, or everyone walk to the reception hall and receive out on the porch of the Inn?  both of these options taking place directly after the ceremony.

confusing, eh? :D  maybe I like the porch idea best.  there can be music, and people can go inside afterwards and wait for the cocktail hour to start or go up to their rooms and relax for about half an hour.  Am I on the right track?

  • I would do it at the front of the reception space because you are done with the church after the ceremony and they have to leave that space eventually. We are not doing a receiving line because we only have 50 guests and our ceremony and reception space are in the same room without a room change. There is no cocktail hour since we are getting married at 10 am but we are going to serve some cheese and fruit, juices, and coffee while we take pictures.
