My fiance and I are thinking about going to the Mexico Riviera area for our honeymoon in June 2011. Do you think it will be safe there even with all the Mexican pirate issues they have been having there?

Tourist areas of Mexico should be fine. I would just advise not leaving the hotel zones or going into any local areas on your own and as with any destination, use common sense.

I traveled to Cancun in September for my honeymoon and had no issues at all, it was a lovely trip!

I would not have confidence in going to Mexico in the summer of 2011.

Yes, t's safe. People really need to read and keep up to speed on where the trouble in Mexcio is. It is NOT in the tourist areas but in the boarder towns.

We were just there in March and honesly, I felt safer there than I do walking the streets of Philly.

We go to Cancun or RM at least once a year and have never had any issues. We will be going back to Cancun in 3 weeks and can't wait for another fabulous vacation.

Most issues are in border towns which are hundreds of miles away. You should be fine by staying in tourist areas.  As you would visiting any area, just be aware of your surroundings.

My mom and aunts just returned for the Riviera Maya and said it was fabulous. My mom said she never felt unsafe and they even left the resort and went into towns in the area, on their own.

Now if you said you wanted to go to Juarez for your HM, then I'd say yes that's dangerous.

I've read every review possible on tripadivsor and not one has said anything about feeling unsafe. The area of the Maya Riviera is fine.

Thanks Ladies!! That has helped a lot! Im going to start looking into resorts there I think it will be a great place to go for our HM, I just got a little worried after talking to some friends. I was there about 14 yrs ago with my parents and had no trouble but that was 14 yrs ago so I wasnt sure. Thanks again!

We HMed at Secrets Maroma Beach 10/18-10/25 (in Riveria Maya, flying into Cancun) and felt completely safe the whole time.

We even went off of the resort for an excursion and took chartered transportation to it.

Completely safe.

As PP's have said, the border towns are where the majority of issues are.  Look on US Department of State website for warnings.  Cancun area IS safe.

Ha and like other PP said, don't HM in Tijiuana & you'll be fine!
