mini moon suggestions in the Southwest

We live in Vegas and planning a minimoon right after the wedding.  Since I'm not sure what time we'll actually be able to leave that next day I don't want to drive too far.  We're getting married in october so the beach won't be too nice anymore but I'm looking for something within 4 hours driving distance at the most  either California, Arizona or Utah. I really just want to relax.

thanks!!!

Re: mini moon suggestions in the Southwest

  • Phenoix?  I've never been but heard it's beautiful.
  • Phoenix?  Not really where I'd want to go on a mini-moon.  It's very sprawled out, probably much like Vegas. (I grew up in Tucson).

I'd suggest Sedona--it should be just under 5 hours for you and it is absolutely beautiful.  The weather that time of year should be great as well.
  • Sadly, we had a horendous time in Sedona a few months ago. I was originally planning on doing Sedona for our minimoon and it was gorgeous but after that trip it will be a while until we'll make it back there.

  • You could always do a resort in Scottsdale since there are tons of them!

I'd probably go somewhere like San Diego if I were you though,

  • What happened in Sedona?  Do tell so I can avoid!  I ALWAYS suggest San Diego--it's pretty much my favorite place on earth and if the job market in SD were better, I'd be there in a second.  If you're willing to make the drive to San Diego, do it.  You can't go wrong. Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo, or even Monterrey, could be great too, and closer to you in NV.  If you can jump on a plane, Park City or Snowbird or any of the winter ski resorts would be great in October (and much cheaper, obviously).  And while I've never been to Tahoe, my family just had a reunion there, and apparently it was beautiful!

Or, be adventurous, do a random place like Davis or Santa Clara CA.  Both beautiful but not a typical minimoon spot.
  • We just had a very dramatic night at the campgrounds that completely soured our experience of Sedona.

We unfortunately can't jump on a plane since I'm still not exactly sure what we're doing the day after the wedding, so I don't know what time we'll be able to get out of town. So we're looking for something drivable and close enough.

  • The Carmel/Monterey area is lovely in California. We stayed at the Mission Ranch in Carmel, owned by Clint Eastwood and it's very idyllic and peaceful. We didn't make it into the city of Carmel, but understand it is lovely.

    Monterey has a fabulous aquarium.

Beach may not be super warm in October, but would probably be nice to visit/see.
  • We just went to a wedding in Auburn, CA and it was ridiculously gorgeous. There were a lot of hiking trails, wineries, and bed and breakfasts throughout the mountains.
