European Weddinf

Hello,

I recently got engaged and we are planning to have a private wedding ceremony, just the two of us somewhere in Europe. The country has not yet been decided. I was wondering if anyone could suggest an awesome European wedding planner. I will need someone to arrange accommodations and coordinate vendors, but I will also need a lot of help with the marriage laws over seas, what documents I will need, and legal help along those lines.... Anyone have any suggestions for this? Thanks so much for the help!

Re: European Weddinf

  • You may want to try posting this on the destination weddings board, which is under wedding theme board. However, as someone who had a destination wedding, you are only likely to find a wedding planner once you have chosen your destination. I'd start by narrowing things down a bit, then choosing a few resorts/hotels in the areas you have chosen, and contact their events departments. Europe has MANY countries and surely you aren't looking at all of them! There is also a section somewhere on The Knot to look up marriage license requirements. Those requirements may help you weed out some places, as some countries require you to be there for 30 days prior to the wedding. I had a few European destinations on my initial destination wedding list (Italy, Switzerland), but ultimately went with Australia. I have also seen brides posting on here who have gotten married in Ireland and Scotland. So, I know those locations are doable.

  • Thanks so much!  I was originally thinking Greece, but have heard wonderful things latley about Scottland.... I will post there thank you again!
  • I would do a search for wedding websites for the country you want to travel too that would be similar to theknot. They would probably have wedding vendor reviews available. Also try google search for the country & wedding to find out the logitics of getting married there.

One of my friends wanted a tropical wedding until she researched the license laws for that country and found out that they required a physical exam & blood work 10 days prior to the wedding (I don't remember what country this was) and she was like, I'm not having a doctor in a foreign country that I don't know exam me, so she decided for a different location. Plus they also didn't want to have to that early prior to wedding.

I don't know the logistics of this, but you may want to check with your local courts also to see what you'll have to do, if anything, to make sure your marriage is recognized in the United States.
