Retro and Vintage Weddings

Dress Poll

I got my dress from a vintage clothing shop, it is a new dress but 1950's inspired.  How many of you are wearing a vintage or vintage inspired dress and where did you find it?

Re: Dress Poll

  • I wish my dress was vintage or more vintage inspired. I guess it is a little bit because of all the lace, broche and champagne ribbon? These make it look kinda old? I guess LOL

  • The lace and ribbon does give it a vintage feel.  It's very beautiful!
  • thanks wheres your dress? can we see pics. I bet it is adorable 50's inspired :)
  • My dress isn't particularly vintage or retro either.  I'm wearing a birdcage veil, and possibly a retro-inspired hairstyle.

  • My dress is all-over lace. It's strapless which doesn't look very vintage to me.

I'd love to hear more about your wedding! What sort of accessories are you going to wear with your gown?

  • My dress is not vintage at all, but we're going for a more retro/ mod look anyway.

No lace or ruffles, beads or embroidery, just clean lines, plain taffeta with some architectural ruching and I'm making fabric flowers to pin to the hip. (Also putting polka dot mesh under the "pleated" part of the skirt)

(note- that pic shows sparkly crap on the hip and back, I ordered it with NO sparkles)

  • Mine is a lace overlay with tulle underneath, it looks very vintagy---and Im doing a sort of mantilla looking veil in ivory also.  Looks just like the pic in my bio.....Cant wait!!
  • This is a picture of my dress that I got at the vintage clothing store, I got mine in a champaign color and I'm adding a petticoat to make it fuller, the dress is about mid shin length.  I'm also wearing vintage jewelry and veil http://www.queenofheartz.com/holiday-dress.html
Here are my bridesmaid dresses but I'm going to do them red and black.  http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27810170

Mine is fully tiered scalloped lace from top to bottom and has a satin fan fold underlayer that just peaks out at the bottom when it's all laid out. I had to have it when I saw the bustle on it. It's very romantic looking, and our 'theme' is Spanish so if the dress doesn't pull that off all on it's own hopefully my hair and red rose in it will. It's very form fitting though, which is why I would say I don't know if it really pulls off the vintage look very well because vintage dresses seem to be more modest and roomy IMO. I'm having a hard time figuring out the veil.

  • My dress isnt retro or vintage.  FI's mom offered her mom's wedding dress, which is very 1950's, after we already made mine. lol

My dress is being made by our mothers and is satiny, smooth and has green details.  I dont have any pictures cause it's not done yet. I'll post them on my bio when I get some taken.
  • My grandmother is making my dress. It's past vintage... haha! It's almost more renaissance-ish... long sleeves, but I think it's really pretty. My grandmother has made a long (though I'm not sure what the correct terminology for the length is) veil with tiny crochet  shell detail with a tiny pearl bead at the top of each shell! But in any case, this is a picture of the pattern...
