Retro and Vintage Weddings

What you do respond better to?

We're getting married outdoors in a small garden and having our reception in a small private room in a really great restaurant in walking distance.  I know we're doing shades of red, orange, and shocks of eggplant.  It is a fall wedding.

Do you respond better to rustic vintage... like steel drums with flowers as centerpieces, simple wedding party looks, maybe love bird cake topper and invitations and run that theme a bit through it, more plain cake, simple bouquet and updo with some sort of vintage haircomb

or

More vintage glam...... extravagant flowers incorporating pearls and lace in the decor, floor lenth bridal party gowns in rich colors, instead of a 'theme' focus more on the pearls, lace, and anything else vintage i can think of, an extravagant cake with pearl and lace touches... a bouquet incorporating pearls in the bouquet and lace handle and hair with either some sort of veil and hair comb... maybe a birdcage.

Re: What you do respond better to?

  • I suck at making decisions, but "shabby chic" comes to mind when I think of my own wedding, which is sort of a mix of your two visions. Although mine has less nature-related things like twigs or nests (which is super cute, just wouldn't flow well with my milk glass and apple green damask vision).
Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

  • When given a choice I always go for glamour. So I would have to say the second one sounds good to me.

  • I'm not a glamour girl and I think the first option would fit much better with your garden/restaurant wedding. Vintage glam would be appropriate if you were getting married in a historic theater, ballroom, etc.

  •  I like the idea of more rustic vintage better. I think you have more options for DIY projects and really personalize what you want.  And most "shabby chic" vintage weddings aren't so matchy matchy wih everything, so finding decorations might be easier.
  • If I had to choose, I respond more to the first option. But you can always use elements of both. I went for an "elegant rustic" look.

  • The second choice, but that's my personal style.
You should go with which speaks to you.
Or mix and match! You don't have to follow every single guideline of a theme.
  • It sounds like with your location, the rustic vintage would be fabulous! For me, it depends on the day which one I'd respond to more!! haha
