POLL: Personalized pencils as favors?

OK so I love this idea. We are having a fall wedding, so school supplies like pencils go with the season. Plus its very affordable and easy--just tie some ribbon around a few pencils for each guest and done.  No cooking required and no melting possible.
Trouble is FH doesnt like it and a survey of friends hasnt helped me decide.
Other options include Jelly Bellys in bulk (a bit $$$) or making hard candy.
Help! Thanks in advance!

    I voted ambivalent.  I don't think the idea is amazing (but I don't think favours should be amazing anyway.  Most guests don't care about the favours so I don't think a lot of work should be put into them).  With that in mind, the pencil idea is great.  They're useful, and cute, ...but people won't be blown away by them.  Knowmsayn?  I say do it, because it's easy and cheap!

    I wouldn't mind a pencil, but I wouldn't use it. I'm weird like that, if it has a nice enough design I won't use it and just keep it in a box. I still have some from bookfairs in elementry school that are unsharpened.
    I also say do it. Kids always need pencils and if your family is anything like mine, pencils are always hard to find around the house.

    The pencils, to be honest, will probably not be used by most people although many will save them as keepsakes. My concern with this idea is that your FH doesn't like it. You should talk about it and see if he has other ideas that he likes better and then make your decision together.

    FH and I talked and he said hes been thinking about the pencils and the more he thinks about it and visualizes it, he likes it.

    Nukke, youre totally right. I dont think favors should be a focus and we dont want to spend much or do much regarding them. Pencils are easy and cheap, so I think thats what we will do.
    I'm thinking red pencils with white lettering and tying them with white ribbon...and if I have the time, maybe writing short quotes about love or life on the ribbon.
     FH is finally working on invitations now and we got some e-pics shot over the weekend :)

    I voted "Love it" because we did personalized pens as part of a personal touch for my wedding. I got 100 personalized pens for $50! I thought it was a great deal and it goes with a crossword puzzle and word find that is all about us. Anyway, I think it's a cute idea, but I'm a sucker for small personal touches. :)

    I also love it!  I may borrow that idea for our big day!  I love fun pencils.  I always bring them to work and people always know they are mine!
