Flowerless Reception Centrepieces

I am researching possible alternatives to floral centrepieces.  The feel and look of our wedding is going to be ornate, vintage and romantic.  Our colors are the emerald green and dark sapphire blue, like those of a peacock feather.  We are on a budget and really can't justify spending excessive money on flowers for one day.

any suggestions, imagery or links for me to get some inspiration?

  • We are using ostrich and bleached peacock feathers in eiffel tower vases for our centerpieces. The ostrich feathers are really expensive, and as a result we are purchasing a "budget" feather, but no one at the wedding is going to know the difference. The price per centerpiece is more than I originally wanted to spend, but since so many brides are choosing this look I think we will easily be able to sell the supplies to another bride. Here is the price breakdown for six centerpieces.

    The vases are 24" clear, 6 @ 6.99 = approx. $42.
    100-130 snow white floss feathers = $100.
    The floral foam (already purchased) 6 @ 1.40 = $8.40
    100 bleached peacock feathers = $35.
    Plus shipping costs (est. $30)
It comes to about $35 per centerpiece.

Also, we are placing five votive candles placed in jam jars (we are saving these) around the vases. We already purchased the candles, 42 for $20.

My advice to you would be to research the total price of any alternative centerpieces before you have your heart set on something. I realized early on that I wanted ostrich feathers but didn't bother to research the price (yikes!) until months later, after I was already attached to the idea and had to make it happen. Hope this helps!

  • I guess it depends on your theme. Vintage, romantic, and ornate could mean so many things. Can you tell us any more details about your "look"?

Here is what I've come up with so far...

    agree with pp about birdcages
stack of old books tied with a ribbon
    just candles of various heights
a large pretty picture frame with a picture of something that goes along with your theme or a romantic poem displayed in it

  • You could get a picture tree, and put vintage pictures of family members on them..
PLEASE remember not to put them above candles, for the love of all things holy.
