Poll--What are you throwing?

Hey retro-vintage knotties!

I wanted to know, as you exit your ceremony site (church, etc), what are your guests going to throw at you?  Why?

I'm going with rice.  why?  It's CHEAP, eco-friendly and classic.  :D  Did you also know that there's an old tradition where someone counts the grains of rice in the bride's hair to tell her how many children are in her future?  Tee hee!  I'm a sucker forsupersitions and traditions.

  • i dont think we'll do any of these - will probably walk out of the church and do a receiving line instead.

  • We are not permitted to throw anything outside of the church due to clean up needed etc for the evening mass. Even if we were, we wouldn't do anything.  We have enough time for pics etc that we may also do the receiving line at the church.

  • Throwing white confetti.  I am getting married in February and it will look like snow in the pictures.  Also it disolves in water - no clean up!
  • We're not throwing anything.... I'm pretty sure, anyway.  If we DID it'd be birdseed, for sure.

  • Our venue doesn't allow anything other than bubbles...which I'm not really crazy about...but I'm starting to think that it'll be ok because all of the Christmas lights reflected in the bubbles should be really nice (especially for pictures!).

  • not sure if we will ,or if we want to,but I do need to check with the venue then we can make a decision.

  • Our venue doesn't allow confetti or anything like that which would require cleanup on their part. So, bubbles it is!
  • If we do anything, we'll do bubbles, because of the beach ceremony, there are lots of littering rules, and I can't imagine trying to pick rice out of the sand! It's for that same reason that our flower girl won't be throwing flower petals, there's just no way we can do the cleanup without going crazy. :)

  • We are also throwing nothing. No big reason, just nothing worth throwing I suppose. It's low on our priority list right now.
  • We are not throwing anything due to we are getting married at the end of Jan in Northern Ohio and i dont think it would be right for our guest to wait outside for us so we are giving out bells with our programs and then when my dad (hes a pastor doing our wedding) pronounces us husband and wife they will all ring the bells also a nice thing they will take them to the reception to ring them for us to kiss instead of hitting a glass!
  • I don't know if we're allowed to at the venue..need to check into that still.

But I was hoping since it's 4th of July, we're going to give everyone a sparkler instead.

Otherwise bubbles, if we do anything at all.

  • We're either doing bird seed or flower petals. We're not allowed to throw anything not biodegradable, and no rice, so I thought the birds gathering around afterward could be neat.
  • paper air planes - they are about the size of the palm of your hand. I know I will probably get nailed in the head with one. Our first discussion was about little squirt guns.... yeah.... no way

  • i think we are going to have black and white balloons released, weather permitting. We are having a black and white wedding with an outdoor ceremony. Thought about doing "poppers" but not sure about the whole clean up thing.Tongue out
  • we're not having anything thrown at us....

Our reception is going to be outside... and we're going to have fireworks...

so hopefully non shoot AT us!
  • We are giving our guests sparklers and monogrammed match books right before the send off.
  • Bird Seed - same as others, the venue is picky about what is thrown.  We are actually going to throw it as we leave the reception.  Have the DJ announce for everyone to "say goodnight to the new couple" and have them at the door when we walk to the limo to leave for the night.
  • We're going to give all of our guests pieces of paper and have them make paper airplanes to throw!  This sounds very wasteful now that I write it down haha.  Oh well, I think it will be fun.  Maybe I will just have the papers saved and will use them for printing school stuff on.  I print SO much for school and usually just notes and stuff that doesn't have to be turned in.

Now that I've justified it...we're doing paper airplanes ;)

I keep you with me in my heart, you make it easier when life gets hard.
  • nothing.  We are doing an arch of sabres.
  • Bubbles for us! Our church will not allow anything else.
    The future Mrs. Darling
  • Our wedding ceremony is being held in an open space preserve so we are going to throw wildflower seed...doesn't make  much sense since our wedding is in the fall....but maybe some of the seeds will survive winter and bloom in the spring. :O)
  • Our guest did bubbles which were fun and not as bad as I though. No bubbles in my hair or on my dress.  The pictures were awesome with the bubbles also.

  • We're using streamers! The photos I've seen of this being done look awesome. They're a bit of work because we're making them ourselves, but we are hoping to be able to incorporate them into other decorations. There's also no clean up, and I think they'll be fun for the kiddos there (as well as drive their parents crazy ;)

Interstingly enough, as pp mentioned, our wedding is on May day... hadn't thought of that yet. Guess it was meant to be :)

  • nothing - church didn't allow it, and anyway it was dark.

  • i have also heard many times about birds eating the rice and it expands in their tummy, and it kills them. that's why many couples have turned to birdseed instead.

however, according to Snopes, it is not harmful to birds, so it could just be a myth. snopes does warn rice can cause a slippery ish surface on a sidewalk for guests though!

We're not doing anything, just a recieving line.  Instead, at the reception we're going to be annouced with "Bubbly" from Colbie Calete playing (its kind of our song, but we didn't want it for our first dance) and have the guest blow bubbles at us when we walk in, along with a bubble machine going.
  • Ribbon Wands!!! Our venue doesn't allow us to throw things so we are doing ribbon wands. I thought it'd be fun!
  • Sounds fun! I bet the pics will look really neat too!
