my something old

My mom and I were talking about what I could do for "something old", and she suggested that I use lace from her wedding gown to make something for my wedding!   I love the idea, but I'm not sure yet what I can make.  I was thinking of maybe using the lace as a tie for my bouquet.  What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Re: my something old

  • That is a great idea!

You could also make your garter out of it and make an heirloom piece you can pass down. :)

  • I like both suggestions in PPs (I'm wrapping lace left over from my dress alteration around my bouquet). How about using some of the lace to have a custom headpiece made? Just for ideas - like this or like this or like this. Or have a clutch made? Like this or like this.

  • wow, great suggestions!  I might have enough lace for several of these ideas. Unfortunately it's been a long time since I've seen the gown so I don't remember what the lace looks like.  My mom is going to bring it when she visits in the spring.

Nukke, I was thinking of a garter at first, but then I wanted something that would show a little more. mn2italy -- great ideas. I already have my headpiece (bircage veil), but I like the clutches! The first one is really pretty.  I do sew a little, so the garter might be a fun project!  I haven't been too successful with handbags in the past, but maybe I could sew the lace as an applique on a purchased plain satin bag.

  • That is my something old too. I have my great grandma dress. She was married in 1934 :) But it is size 0 and she was only 4'8 sooo I decided to cut it up AHHHHH! and make my daughters flower girl dress out of it. It will lok so gorgeous and very special but I still dont know if I can actually do it. It is so beautiful.

I also have a piece of lace from my grandma wedding dress from the other side and I too am going to wrap it around my bouquet.
  • That sounds amazingly awesome! What a great way to use "something old". I love the garter idea. :)
