1950's Family NOT Rockabilly

My fiance and I really enjoy the whole 1950's stepford family style, but when we look for clothes and things everything looks too rockabilly. Our ceremony is going to be outside, and we would like our reception to be at a park with a 1950's family potluck/BBQ type theme.

Does anyone have any creative ideas for the BBQ or any ways to keep it from looking rockabilly?

Our colors are a slightly pale (but not pastel) orange with a slightly pale (but again not pastel) green, we're hoping that will help since most rockabilly is red/blue/black.

If you don't like something, change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

We own our first home as of March 8, 2011!

  • Have you tried modcloth? They have lots of 50s style dresses that are kind of housewifey. Unique Vintage might have some stuff, too. I'd hit up the antique store and look up lots of pictures from 1950s ads. This will probably help you with the decor and theme. Lots of 50s music-- bubblegum pop and maybe a little Sinatra & Elvis.
