Retro and Vintage Weddings

Morning Summer Beach Wedding colors

Ladies , I started this convo under my orginal post but wanted to do a poll.

My wedding ceremony will be on the beach the Monday morning of Memorial Day. The reception will be at a great vintagey looking building. Our reception will be a breakfast reception.

I 'm torn between color themes!

My original love and color want was blush (light pink) , gold and ivory but after deciding on a harlem renaissance/vintage glam theme Im thinking if black /ivory/pink would look better.

Im wondering if black is too heavy for a morning wedding (for bm dresses, invites, tablecloths, etc.) in the summer

Arrrggghhhhh!!! Im so torn.

What do you ladies think?

Re: Morning Summer Beach Wedding colors

  • Wow, that's a hard one. When I think of the Harlem Ren, I def see bold colors, like red and black. But since it is in the morning, I think lighter colors would be a better choice. I think I would keep the blush and ivory and maybe add black instead of the gold.

  • I like both of those combos, that's a hard one.  But I'd go with black, ivory and pink but maybe use the black as more of an accent.
  • I remember, when I was about 11, I told my mom I wanted my (future) bridesmaids to wear black dresses, and she told me that if I did that, she wouldn't come to my wedding.

THAT was MANY years ago!  Today, so many bridesmaids wear black that most people don't even "question" the color, anymore.  Plus, I think that there's something about black dresses that automatically says "classic."  I'd stick with it.  After all, your theme is Harlem Renaissance, not Beach or Morning.  (And, BTW, my mom now admits that black dresses look beautiful in weddings.)

  • my bridesmaids wore black on the hostest day of july...and everything looked great :)

  • So thrilled to hear you're going with Harlem Reniassance idea.  It seems original in wedding ideas and the period was just beautiful!  I definitely would go with your original vision ... blush and gold will be lovely for vintagey architecture as well a beach.  I wonder if you've considered keeping the third accent color for the ceremony and then bringing in the darker color for the reception only.  Harlem buildings are beautiful with their accents of crimson and chocolate in the stained windows, lamps.  Again, props to you on your themes.
