Florida-South Florida

venue help! please!

hi all! i got engaged last month (yay!) and i've been lurking the boards since then...this is my first time posting though! my fiance and i are having a hard time finding a venue we like and i was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions. we're going to have 200 guests. there are certain things we are looking for though:

1. broward/south palm beach/north miami location
2. indoor space for both ceremony and reception (the only thing i'd consider having outside would be cocktail hour)
3. vintage style/unusual venue. we're not into the modern look of things or typical ballrooms. we want the wedding to have a gatsby type feel to it.

we loved the addison in boca, but it was too small for us and we didn't like the separate rooms. we loved a bunch in coral gables (westin colonnade, douglas entrance, cocoplum), but south miami is too far for all of our relatives.

if anyone has any suggestions of venues that might work for us, i would appreciate it so much! i'm getting pretty disparaged :( can't wait to start talking to everyone on the boards as more planning gets underway! :)

  • Congrats and welcome to the board!!!

How about the Sundy House or the Spanish River Library. I love, love the Spanish Library...it's an incredible venue and so pretty! Both of these locations are up north either in Broward or West Palm.

Sundy House is beautiful, I also liked The Spanish Monastery in North Miami Beach.

Shari I bet you don't remember me, I lived near Helene if that helps!!! Congratulations on the engagement!!! Have you tried the Diplomat in Ft Lauderdale its where Senior prom was so definitely big enough!!! I booked the Pelican but its to small for the number of guests you have!!!

  • @mademoiselle d and @jmfl13: thanks for the suggestions! i have a question though. after looking at pictures online, i noticed that all the weddings i saw were outside. are you sure there are indoor spaces for both ceremony and reception big enough for 200 people at these places (sundy house, spanish monastery, spanish river library)? i appreciate your help so much :)

@dannyandmel2003 i think i vaguely remember you! lol sorry, the mind gets fuzzier as we get older haha thank you!! congrats to you too! i'll definitely check out the diplomat :)

The Sundy House will be too small for the amount of guests you are planning on inviting. The Spanish River Library is very roomy and I believe it has an indoor section but contact the venue to double check.

The Spanish Monestary is a nice location but it may be a little cramped for 200 guests, IMO. I second checking out the Flager Museum....beautiful and it's indoors.

Not sure what's your budget but you can also check out the Morikami Muesuem...it does have an indoor facility to host the reception.

Also check out these other locations:
    - The Bonnet House (nice location but not sure how big is the indoor section)
    - Stranahan House
    - The Harriet Himmel Theater (very nice and spacious)
    - Norton Museum of Art
    - Old School Square Cultural Arts Center (it has a cool vintage gymnasium)
  • What about Deering State?

If you saw me you would lol. Try using wedding wire for venues. The W in ft lauderdale is nice too not sure on there size of guests though.
  • Im a wedding planner myself (also engaged and planning my own wedding) and I have done a wedding at the Spanish Monastery and Morikami Museum.

Spanish Monastery is an outdoor venue, and (as a b2b myself) definitely would not be a suggestion for 200 people! The venue is great, but for the number of guests you have, I would not rec. and you said you said you wanted an indoor space for both ceremony and reception and that is not what the Spanish Monastery is.

As for Morikami, it does have an indoor area for reception, but you cant fit more than 8 tables comfortably in there.

Im not trying to knock others ideas for you, but with what you're saying you want, I would not rec. these venues, even though they are great venues. :)
  • thanks everyone!

@dannyandmel2003 i'm sure i would! when is your wedding?

@mrsfranco417 i really appreciate your post...i was getting confused with all the suggestions having only pictures of outdoor weddings! lol based on what you know, would you be able to make any suggestionsthat do fit our criteria? thanks so much
