Honeymoon HELP!!

I'm trying to plan the honeymoon and I'm stuck!  We want something warm and tropical, all-inclusive, with outdoor/water activities and possibly fun locales to see, not crowded and away from all the Spring-breakers (since we're going mid-April).  I'm on a tight budget and I'm hoping to keep it around $2K if possible.  The Sandals thing seems nice but can be pricy and I haven't heard great things about them.  I haven't tried a travel agent yet, cuz I wanna do it on my own if I can.  I just need some advice since there seem to be so many options to choose from.

Thanks! :-)

  • The more secluded hotels that are family/couple friendly do cost a little more... not sure how long you are planning to take a honeymoon, but you should be able to stay at a Dreams resort for about 5 days for that... flight included!  Check out apple vacations...

  • You definitely can work with that budget especially if you go for less than a week.  We did 3 nights at Secrets Capri for $1500 including flights from DC this past April to celebrate my birthday.  It was the only time we've done adult only AI but I must admit it was a lovely hotel.  We're not really AI people but I would stay at Secrets again for a long lazy weekend trip.

  • check out Trip Advisor and cheapcaribbean.com for some starting ideas. I think the major factor in the pricing might be the airfare, since that can be a busy time of year for spring break flights, so you might want to check out Jet blue or Kayak.com.
  • I've booked some trips through Expedia and they were good.  Easy to compare prices, and if you don't care about the specific country or resort you want to go to there are a lot of results that come up.

I would suggest Palace Resorts they are very tropical (all properties in Mexico or Dominican Republic) and all-inlclusive. IMO they have a better product and better quality than Sandals. They also currently have a promotion of $1,500 resort credits that you can use like cash for things like the spa, golf and excursions. I went this summer and I had an amazing time. Also, I know that some hotels are more flexible with rates if you don't have a travel agent because in most cases travel agents will make commission of whatever they sell. So that would be a good way to save money if you can go without using a travel agent.
