I'm planning on a DIY cake monogram topper and I had a question for you girls that have done yours already. How do you know what size of crystals to buy?? TIA!!!!

My first piece of advice, DON'T DO IT. lol  It takes FOREVER, doesn't come out perfect, and costs almost the same as buying it from an etsy seller.  Really, it's not worth it! However, if you decide to do it anyway, you should buy two sizes of crystals.  I bought 12ss and I should have also bought a smaller size (maybe 10ss or 9ss?).  You should have a smaller size to fit in the teeny holes between the big ones and for the edges. I have info in my bio... Trust me though, buy it.  It's not a fun project and the worst part about it is, that if you are a perfectionist, you probably won't be 100% pleased.  Sorry to be a Debbie Downer!

I agree with mich with respect to getting two sizes... A 12ss and 8/9ss would be great together... For me, although it as a PIA, I enjoyed making it but then again I DIYd just about eveything.. I saved money with mine but I did not buy the swarovski crystals..

LOL!! Thanks Michi! I was debating if I should just buy it done to avoid it coming out like a kindergardener did it, but i think i will just buy it done if its a mission to do it. Thanks!!!!!!

It's definitely a mission. I mean it takes hours, you have to be very precise and meticulous, and I had never done anything like that before, so one side of the topper was all messed up and the other one is much better lol. I mean if you LOVE to DIY, like Laurel the DIY Queen, then go for it. But, if you are doing it to save a buck, it's not worth the hassle IMO.
