East Coast Beach Honeymoon

Fiance and I finally came up with a list of what we would like for our ideal honeymoon.

Beach on the East Coast (or Gulf side of Florida)
5-7 nights
A condo/house rental that allows 24 year olds to rent
A private hot tub
$2500 total costs (lodging, food, travel, entertainment)
Great food nearby
Snorkeling/kayaking/hiking

I have been looking on VRBO but without a particular location in mind, it is hard to search.  There is also no easy way to narrow down which lisitings have hot tubs.

Any advice?

  • Sorry, no specific advice; but I'm curious about your siggy pic; are you guys in Cinque Terre?

  • That is actually in California on the Pacific Coast Highway at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. That area is amazingly beautiful!

It is gorgeous!  The pic looks almost identical to one my SIL took in CT, Italy!

I would check out Hilton Head Island, SC or Charleston, SC. Charleston has some of the best rated beaches in the U.S. and it is a gorgeous city. They have several smaller islands that you can rent condos/houses right on the beach. Same with Hilton Head Island. It's a very small, private island that is great for tourists. The beaches are amazing and they have houses right on the water to rent or in communities that are literally a 5 minute walk from the beach. They also have all types of water sports/activities you could do. Hilton Head is right in between Charleston and Savannah, GA too if you wanted to travel for a day.

You can also check out Sanibel Island in FL or Naples. They both have great beaches as well.

    Outer Banks of North Carolina

It's a small stretch of Barrier Islands and I have vacationed there since I was a kid and was recently married on the beach this past September.

In the latest issue of "Islands" magazine that came out last Friday, it was ranked as one of the Top 20 Islands in the WORLD to visit.  I was very excited to see this as many people don't know about this secret paradise.

I know you had mentioned FL and East coast beaches, but thought I would throw this out there as well and there are several oceanfront beach homes that can accommodate what you are looking for.

If you are interested in more info, send me a PM and  I will be happy to help.

ETA:  Just realized you were from NC so I am sure you already know about OBX....but it's still a great place to just get away from it all.

  • Amanda and OBX, thanks for the suggestions!

Having lived in NC for my whole life, I have actually been to Hilton Head, Charleston and the OBX and they are all good suggestions. We actually went to OBX last year and really enjoyed it. Last night, I even looked up the condo we stayed in to see how much it was in case we decide that is an option. We were there at a funky time and didn't find many close restaurants but it may be different in May.

I will definitely do some research on those but we may want to go somewhere we haven't been. I keep hearing Sanibel Island pop up so that is at the top of our list since we haven't been yet.

    More suggestions welcome!

  • Destin, Florida is my favorite.  It's very peaceful there during the summer/fall.  Spring Break might be a little busy.  None-the-less, it is a beautiful part of Florida.  VRBO has great listings. We usually stay at Crystal Dunes on the beach or at the Beach Resort.
  • Sanibel IS lovely. Reminds me of Hawaii, but cheaper, LOL. The beaches there are pure white with broken pieces of shell that make the whole beach glisten like Mother of Pearl. I loved it there. Can't recommend a place to rent, but check around

I also loved Charleston. We were there a year ago, and in January it was quite warm with all the petunias blooming. We stayed in a fabulous hotel (French Quarter Inn) right near downtown, and there is a lot of history. The islands near Charleston are supposed to be great.
