Torn between 2 resorts in the DR

Hi ladies!
We are struggling to pick between 2 resorts in Punta Cana. The Excellence and The Grand Bahia Ambar. They both look awesome...but we are having a really though time deciding. We would be going in October. Anyone been to either of these resorts? Any thoughts or suggestions would help!!! Thank you!!!!

I always look at Trip Advisor reviews. Try that. Also, ask a travel agent.

Excellence, hands down! You will not be disappointed. We have sent MANY friends and family there and everyone returns again and again. We also stayed at Paradisus which is gorgeous also but the service at Excellence Punta Cana is like no other. Highly recommend!

My biggest concern is the beach at the excellence. I have read many reviews that there are always red flags up, the undertoe is too strong, and that it isn't the pretty clear Caribbean water that one would expect. I love the beach...I would be so upset if I could swim n it on my honeymoon. We are going in October. What are your views on the beach and ocean?

I've been to the Ambar resort in Oct. 2010.  It was for a girls weekend and not a romantic trip, but it was mostly couples at the resort.  Here is a link  < -- (clicky)  to my review (Sara210 on Tripadvisor).  Overall, food was just OK (but I've never had really good food at an all inclusive resort).  But, beach was AWESOME there.  I liked the size of the resort, too.  I was worried it would be too big, as it is part of a bigger resort complex, but it wasn't.

 We stayed at an all-inclusive called Lifestyles. Had an awsome vacation. Great because it had quiet areas as well as bars and clubs. The food was amazing and the service was outstandin. We even went waterfalling. This is the site we went through. They were great.
