dumb question of the day

Ok so if I want to book my photographer and videographer, and basically I have seen a lot of their work either on their blog and website and my heart is set on booking them, do I have to meet with them before making a deposit?  FI says yes...but I dont feel like I have to lolAm I being completely naive? I just dont know what I would meet them for if I already know i want them....

Yes, you need to meet with them. Even though you love their work, you should make sure you click with them. I would also meet with competitors, even if you are dead set on hiring a certain one. You do not want regrets after you place a deposit.

I'm with your FI on this one.  I loved the work of several photographers, but quickly decided against them upon meeting them because we didn't "gel."  Keep in mind that these people will be with you ALL day and some in intimate situations (getting dressed, first look, etc) so you want to feel comfortable.  I would do my best to meet them in person first unless you are out of town and can't do so.

I wouldnt book soley based on their work. Even if you dont meet with them in person, I think its a good idea to chat over the phone. Photographer I would say meet in person bc you're going to have to work closely and personally with him on the wedding day. I booked my videographer only after speaking with him on the phone and through email. His work spoke for itelf too.

Yes, you need to meet with them. Go beyond their blog pictures and see a few completed albums from recent weddings! Don't just go by their best shots.

Lissette makes a very good point.  A lot of these vendors look really good on the internet, but it's a great idea to ask them to see whole wedding albums/videos.  They typically put their best work on their websites (which of course they should), but you might be able to tell a lot more if you can see a whole album or video.

Definitely meet with them and see more work..I met with one photog who I thought would be at the top of my list based on the blog, but quickly crossed them off once I saw some full albums/weddings. I was not impressed with what I saw in person and our personalities weren't the greatest match either. These are huge checks, so it's worth it to meet or at least talk over the phone IMO.

Def meet - your photog will be with you more than anyone else (except your FI) so you need to feel comfortable with them as a person as well as with their work :) They will be with you from the moment you get ready to when you leave at night :)

I met with my photog in person because I was nervous to book without seeing her... turns out it was love at first sight, haha!!!I booked Javier based solely on emails - I'm planning from out of town so I can't meet with every vendor. If you're able to meet with him in person, I say go for it! You won't regret it.

Hold on to your money until you have made some sort of communication with your vendor and you are sure your personalities click.Think of it this way: they may be the most talented artist in the world, but if they are arseholes then they might ruin your day. You don't want that, no?

Great advice...But it's too late for me ...I already booked my photog & videographer - haven't met them.  Just seen their work and communicated by emails!

For me, I felt it was important to meet the photogs especially so I could see a complete album b/c that can really make or break them. Some who I loved online, when I saw a complete wedding album, I wasn't impressed with the type or range of shots etc... also it's nice to feel like you click with them. For Video, I booked without meeting since I was able to request a demo video which I watched which was a complete wedding video and then I saw samples on the blog. Plus he's all the way in Stuart and frankly, I didn't want to drive up there! So in summary, yes to photog, with Video, request a demo so you can see the "final product"
