Cruise for a Honeymoon?

I am thinking of a cruise, but not sure which cruise line to go with.  For a honeymoon I feel that I want to go on a nicer cruise line than carnival.  Any suggestions?

  • I love Royal Carribbean cruises!

  • We are going with Carnival for our hm cruise. We have both cruised with them before and enjoy it!

  • I've only been on Carnival Cruises (3 - and loved them all)...  but my parents have been on Norweigan and Carnival and thought Norweigan was a bit nicer.

  • Visit cruisecritic.com and read reviews of all the major lines that offer itineraries to where you want to go and find one that suits your wants/needs.
  • We're going on a Carnival cruise, but it's our first one for both of us, so we don't really have anything to compare it to. We read/heard it is more kid/young singles friendly, but we're going in late April, so we're hoping that will be a good time: after spring break but before most schools let out for summer, so not a ton of kids.

I would also think that some destinations are more popular with couples than families, but that could be totally off.

  • I haven't been on a cruise at all, and either has he.  I want to do a small cruise in last August when we can get some time off of work.  That way I can see if I am the type that gets sick or not.  I will be going on Carnival for that one to see how I like it.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.  Norwegian looks nice.  I am such an indecisive person by nature, so the planning of pretty much everything is tough for me LOL.

  • I had never been on a cruise before and loved Norwegian.  For me, I think it would take a really awesome itinerary for me to check out another line.
  • I've felt that Carnival and Royal Caribbean are pretty much the same. They're both wonderful, but Celebrity is a huge step above in terms of service, food, and the ship itself. If you're looking for something nicer than Carnival/Norwegian/Royal Caribbean definitely look into Celebrity.

  • We went on a Norwegian Cruise last March to the Bahamas. We got a great price for it. We had a great time, but it was very informal. Most cruises have those dressy, "captain's dinner" nights. We pretty much wore flip flops and shorts the whole time, as did most of the ship. That worked fine for us, but I'm not sure if you'd want something more formal. It was also worth noting that since we went in March, about half the ship were spring breakers who were drunk the whole time...not so romantic. So stay away from March.
  • ive been on many different lines. during the summer you should check who's running cruises where you want to go and what the itineraries are. to me the itinerary is FAR FAR more important than the linke

  • Depends on what you want, great ports or great ship.  Celebrity is great for service and their southern caribbean cruises also have great ports.  I would recommend looking into a Southern Caribbean cruise on Celebrity.

  • I'm a big fan of Royal Caribbean. I've done Carnival and Princess, and I found RC the most fun, best customer service, and best food hands down. They still have formal nights, but you can choose if you want to do them or not. I thought they were pretty fun, it's kind of nice to get dresses up to the 9's for dinner :). As a PP mentioned, check out cruisecritic.com, they're a wealth of information, especially for first time cruisers. They review the line, as well as each ship on each cruiseline. We're planning on doing a RC cruise on the new Oasis of the Seas to the Eastern Caribbean next year for our honeymoon, so excited!!
