Gifts for Parents (again)

So I asked this question back in December and a lot of you were still not sure on what to give your parents.

I've been looking into an album for both sets of parents. The pictures will be the same as our album and there will be about 45 photos in a 10x10 nice album for $375 for one or $700 for two.

We kind of feel that the price is quiet steep. Don't you think? We are looking for different ideas.

What will you do for yours? I'm starting to feel panicky especially since we still need to get gifts for GMs and few other people. Help!

Re: Gifts for Parents (again)

  • Wow!! That is very steep in my opinion! Ours are $100 a piece. We haven't thought about gifts for our parents. I hadn't heard of this until your post. Is this just because or is it because your parents are helping pay for the wedding? I guess I am asking is there a tradition behind it?

I agree, my heart is hurting at the price :(

My parents are paying for the wedding, but we also want to thank both sets of parents for everything, from raising us, teaching us everything, and being our huge supporters in our life.

  • Our photography package comes with two parents' albums, but my mom is paying for the photography, so that's not going to suffice as far as "gifts" go. I am going to get my mom something really nice - I was actually considering sending her to a B&B for a weekend of relaxation sometime after the wedding.

For fiance's parents, who aren't contributing to the wedding, I'm still getting them something but it won't be as grandiose. I'm definitely doing the embroidered handkerchiefs, though. I can find a photo of those if you're interested. :)

  • I'm planning on doing albums, on shutterfly, for both sets of parents for christmas. As for "wedding" gifts for them, I'm not sure. I actually found a necklace at JC Penny that I like a lot and might get something like that for the moms. I'm not sure if I'll get anything for my dad and FSFIL. I feel like this is a thank you for their help and the dads haven't actually helped at all. Also, if its a thank you for raising us, well FSFIL didnt raise FI and I think it would be awkward if there was someting for my dad and both moms but not him.

  • I'm a MOB and my daughter asked me recently what a good parents gift would be. We are paying for the entire wedding. A photo album for both parents is included in her package. I told her that when they return from their honeymoon and things have calmed down, a nice photo of our family with our new son in law taken at the wedding and framed along with them treating us to a nice dinner would be very much appreciated. We just want time with our children, its the best gift you can give us.
  • We're going to do an album for my mom, but I don't think FI's parents would appreciate that as much so for them we're going to send them to a nice restaurant in Napa while they're here for the wedding (they're staying a couple days after we leave for the honeymoon).

Also, we most definitely will not be doing a $300 album. I have a vendor account at a printing company because I do some photography on the side so I plan on making our album through them. It'll be about $125-150 and it's leather-bound and everything, but I have a feeling it's because of a special account I have. I'm not sure how much it would be for a normal customer.

Have you thought of making a photo book instead? They're much cheaper.
