Honeymoon in Florida??

My Fiance and I are currently looking for a place to honeymoon at. We are from North Carolina and don't want to spend too much (at most about $1500) so we were looking at places in Florida to go. Has anyone honeymooned in Florida or know someone who has? Also any Florida residents feel free to give a fellow bride some advise!

Re: Honeymoon in Florida??

  • We haven't honeymooned in Florida, but we have mini-mooned there.  We love FL it is our go to place when we want to escape.  We like Ft Myers Beach and Naples best.  If you stay in Ft Myers Beach you can easily get to Sanibel and Captiva Island, great food, and the most romantic sunsets ever.  Try the Mucky Duck for dinner.  We like the Best Western Beach resort in Ft Myers Beach.  All rooms are oceanfront with balconies.  Ask to be put on a high floor.  We have also stayed at the Lighthouse Resort Inn & Suite.  Not on the beach  but only a block away.  The units are clean and some have porches that face one of the two pools.  This place is more of a party place so it can get kinda loud on the weekends.  Tons of place to walk to dinner from either hotel.

We also enjoy Ft Lauderdale.  Blue Moon Fish company is our favorite restraunt.  Fine dining on the water.  Let them know it is a special occasion and the night will be yours to enjoy.
  • it also depends on what kind of honeymoon you are looking for ....
naples ... relaxing quiet alone time vacation ...

fort lauderdale / miami ... more things to do .. restaurants .. bars ... clubs ... spas ... day cruises

key west ... my personal favorite .... tropical and very touristy ... lots of cute bed and breakfasts and bars and beaches and excursions ...

orlando ... you can always do disney or universal

if you have never been to myrtle beach sc ... then i recommend that as well ...

    HTH ...

  • We vacationed in Clearwater/St. Petersburg area.  Very nice, only 2 hours from Orlando if you wanted to split your week up.  Like PP said it depends on what you are looking for, we like a nice relaxed/intimate/more romantic vacation than going to a huge party/nightlife destination.

i live in miami and its very beautiful down here and the weather is great and theres lots of things to do  like the beach , clubs and great shopping and also historical sites :) and day cruises to the bahamas which comes about $80 per person  and you can also try the keys and go snokeling or  rent a villa on the beach  or go camping on the beach in bahia honda or go to sanible island which is beautiful too and lovers key is great for honeymoonesrs lol theres plenty of things to do in florida :)
  • Have you tried St. Augustine?  I've never been but a friend of mine and her fiance spent a few days there last summer and absolutely loved it!  I've researched it a bit online for myself and it has a great mix of historic landmarks and relaxing beaches.  Plus, if you stay downtown and not on the beach, you can get a lot more for your money when it comes to lodging!

I LOVE Tarpon Springs and am shocked that someone else on the boards knows about it as well!! I always do a road trip there when I vacation near St. Pete Beach. As much as I love it, it is a little overly touristy, so I don't think I would actually want to honeymoon there (they do have the best Greek good there, though!)

I would recommend Sanibel Island or Pass-a-Grille beach (a tiny, isolated beach that is on Tampa Bay, about 15 minutes from St. Pete Beach).  Both are romantic, beach-oriented, and slightly more off the beaten path than super touristy Florida spots. Feel free to PM me if these ideas intrigue you. I have been going to Pass A Grille for years and I am OBSESSED - it's like a hidden gem of FL.

SIESTA KEY! I live in FL and by far the best beach I've been to is Siesta in Sarasota. There are no Marriotts or HoJos, just cute family owned motels right on the water. Lots of great beach restaurants and it isn't a touristy place. You can fly into Sarasota airport or Tampa. Also checkout St. Armand's Circle while you're there... Lots of restaurants, shopping, ice cream parlors, etc. Head to Marina Jacks on the bay and see all the massive sculptures by the water. My fiancé is from there and we love going there to visit his family. Siesta Beach is the whitest, softest sand in the state and is consistently ranked as high, if not higher, than beaches in Hawaii and all over the country. Feel free to private MSG me if u have questions :)

  • My fiance and I booked a few days in Hollywood, FL at the Riptide Hotel. We have a beachfront room, and they offer free bikes to take on the boardwalk, and have a little tiki bar. We wont be there until November, so I can't say much else about it. But the prices were good, and the photos look nice!

We're going away to Italy a few months after the wedding, and wanted to still feel like we got away right after the wedding.
