travel agent

I have never used a travel agent before, so I was just wondering do they chage you a lot? Do you have to pay them even if you don't end up booking though them? I feel dumb but I know nothing about them. Thanks

Re: travel agent

  • It depends.  I have used a travel agent a few times (I love her, by the way.  Caroline@EasyEscapesTravel.com).  She doesn't charge a dime and she's fabulous to work with.  Most agents get paid by the hotels themselves so it doesn't cost you anything to employ their services.

I've also contacted some of the destination experts that I've found listed in places like Conde Nast Travelers.  They will often charge you a certain amount up front to create an itinerary, so you wind up paying them regardless.

Not knowing anything about you, your travel style, where you want to go for your hm, your budget, etc. , I'm just going to go out on a limb and say you don't need to work with a destination expert.  I'd find someone who is familiar with where you want to go and the properties that will work within your budget and travel style and desires.

  • We used BeachBum Vacations (Haley is our TA) and she is awesome!!! There was no charge to use them and they are taking care of all the arrangements. I figured after all the other things we are taking care of, we are letting someone else help us with this part. We are going in April, and at this point, I am so glad we went with BB.
    Good luck!
