Honeymoon destination

I was looking for some advice on where to go for our honeymoon.  We are getting marriend in october and live in northern ohio.  The problem is that we are under 25 so we can't rent a car and I don't wan't to spend my whole honeymoon driving to and from our destination.  The only idea I have right now is to go up to a lodge in vermont.  There's a part of me though that wants to be on a gorgeous beach too.  I just don't know where to go for that with out having two days of driving.

Re: Honeymoon destination

  • What's your budget and how many days do you have?

You'll have to make the choice about beach vs. non-beach yourself...but I'm sure the ladies on here can help with decisions once you've made that choice
  • Why do you have to drive somewhere? There are plenty of quick flights to Mexico or the Caribbean from your area that'll have you on a gorgeous beach with a drink in your hand by late morning or early afternoon if you left that morning. 2-4 hours in a plane is much more desirable for a relaxing HM then spending hours to days in a car each way.

A lot depends on how much you're willing to spend for your HM.  We might be able to help with a little more detail.

ETA: If you're not sure about beach or mountains, I'd suggest researching Costa Rica.  You have both and the rainforests are absolutely beautiful.

Do you have a passport?  If not, you could get one, but if so, no need to focus just on driving somewhere....unless that's what you and FI really want to do.  I think you have to narrow down your own specifics of budget, general location, etc.  Let us know and we'll have plenty of suggestions for you :)
  • PP mentioned flying somewhere and just staying in one place.......that's one option.

You could also drive to an area not really far down south, but somewhere like Charleston SC which is romantic and GORGEOUS (was just there in January, and it was in the 60's 2 of the days we were there.........in January!). They have beaches on Kiawah Island, great hotels and history in downtown Charleston.... all the restaurants are fabulous, and I"m a real foodie.

You could fly to Florida, get transfers from the airport to any area you want to go..... I'd highly recommend Sanibel Island, it's near Ft Myers and absolutely tropical.....reminds me of Hawaii.

Pick a place you want to go and then look into airport transfers to the desired area. Most hotels charge daily storage for cars anyway, so it's up to you what you want to do.

If you want a driving vacation, if you have passports, you could go through Detroit and Canada to New England (it's 13 hrs to Boston, I know, I used to live in Boston). Along the way is Toronto and Niagara Falls, and western Massachusetts is lovely. October in New England is fabulous. I'd recommend any state there......Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts. A lot depends on how much time you have.

There's also the finger lake region of NY (Never been, but heard great things about it).

Good luck. I'm sure others have great ideas too.
