Mexican All-Inclusive Options

Hello!  We are booking our honeymoon and we've decided upon Riviera Maya in Mexico for the luxury and value.  Plus we love Mexican food (authentic and Americanized...).  :) These are the AI resorts we're considering and I'd love to get your input.

The Royal Playa Del Carmen - my sister went here for her HM last year and raves about it and how there is a lot to do just outside of the resort (if we want to leave which is something we would like to have the option to do)
El Dorado Royale  - a girlfriend of mine was married here last year and of all of the AI resorts she stayed in she says this was by far the best.  Her friends all agree it was amazing
Secrets Maroma - Heard great things about Secrets and my best friend stayed at a Secrets in Playa del Carmen for her HM four years ago
Secrets Capri - another Secerts option -- which is better?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! We are planning to upgrade to a swim-out room which is something I"m super excited about.  We are working with a local travel agent but I"m trying to get as much feedback as I can now.
Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Re: Mexican All-Inclusive Options

  • We had our DW at El Dorado Royale and frankly cannot imagine a better experience...the food was out of this world, the service and our casita was like a dream. Big thumbs up for El dorado Royale

We are staying at Secrets Maroma Beach.  We chose it over Capri because it looked more luxurious (although Capri is still luxurious) and it has a better beach - one of the best in the world, actually.  Most of the AI in the Riviera Maya are very secluded and you will need to take a taxi to get into downtown PDC or anywhere, really.  I think that The Royal is one of the few AI that is actually in downtown PDC - i.e. within walking distance - but correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally, I'd do either an AI or stay in downtown PDC.  If I am going to be within walking distance of PDC, I'd rather not go with an AI because I'd be too tempted to eat at all the cute little restaurants along 5th Ave there.  And if you eat outside of the resort, what's the point of staying at an AI?  But that's just me.  I think that any of hotels that you have listed have great reviews on tripadvisor.
  • We just booked our honeymoon at The Royal in Playa Del Carmen and are very excited about it! We have heard FANTASTIC things about it from many people! One that that we were exited about was the fact that it is within walking distance to downtown incase there arent many things to do at the resort at night we have other options! Check out Trip Advisor - lots of good reviews and pictures!
  • we are staying at secrets capri--it is rated the number 2 luxery resort in all of mexico according to AAA.  although, we chose it because of the great deal we got.  all of these resorts have great reviews and i am sure you would be happy at any of them.  enjoy!
  • My vote would have to go to one of the Secrets Resorts. I have been to both Secrets Maroma and Secrets Capri. Secrets Maroma has one of the most gorgeous beaches I have ever seen. If you are a beach person, then Maroma is the place for you. The resort is also very spread out and has quite a “new” feel to it.  Secrets Capri, on the other hand, is a more intimate resort with about 300 rooms giving it a very romantic feel. In my opinion, the food at both resorts is equally amazing as is the service. I hope this helps. Congratulations and happy planning!
  • Thank you ladies -- it sounds like we can't go wrong.  :)
I haven't figured it out -- but we are definitely going to use your input.

  • we actually just booked our honeymoon at Secrets Capri, and we cannot wait! I have read pretty much almost every review on trip advisor and they are all fabulous. I like the fact that it is a little smaller than typical AI resorts and that it is an adults only resort. Also we are going to mexico right around spring break time, and they strongly discourage spring breakers. I just can't wait to relax, and enjoy our time together, as well as blow off some steam from all the planning and work at the same time. everything as far as our planning is almost done, and now we only have 36 days left until the wedding! omg it is coming up so fast!!
