Hawaii vs. St. Lucia

My fiance and I are getting married November 24th. We are trying to decide between St. Lucia and Hawaii as potential honeymoon locations. I know Hawaii would be more expensive, but would it be worth it? We would totally get our $$ worth at an all inclusive in St. Lucia, but I just feel like Hawaii is paradise with so many options for excursions and activities to do. Anyone have any thoughts to help me please? Also, has anyone been to either of these places at the end of November/beginning of December and what is the weather like?

I have never been to St. Lucia and have heard great things about it, but I vote for Hawaii. We went to Oahu for our HM and had an absolute amazing time! It could just be my personal preferences though. I don't like the idea of just staying on a resort the whole time. I think you can go off the resort in St. Lucia too, but what I liked about Hawaii was that we had a really nice resort but also rented a car and drove all around the island, exploring. We were never wanting for something to do. We really had every activity we'd want at our fingertips, from water sports, to shopping, hiking, beaches, etc.

You can make Hawaii more affordable by checking out places like vrbo.com and renting a condo with a kitchen, so you can cook and save on food costs. Food is very expensive in Hawaii, so you'd be saving a lot!

We went in July, but the locals said it's pretty much 80 and sunny year-round in hawaii. I am a fan of our resort on FB, and they have been posting pics all winter of sunny and 80º weather. The temperatures there are pretty consisten. My ILs went to the Big Island in Jan. and it was in the 80s also.

  • I vote for St. Lucia! My fiance and I went there last April (Sorry can't tell you the weather in Nov) and had a blast! We stayed at the Ginger Lily Hotel, which is not an all-inclusive but I would highly recommend it! It is a gorgeous, adults-only hotel andis located directly across the street from the best beach on the island. You can lay on the beach or walk around the "downtown" area. It was very close to some of the islands best restaurants. Spinnakers, which is right on the beach, has amazing food and the atmosphere is great! If you are looking for some adventure, I would suggest hiking the Pitons. They are a volcano in Soufeire (can take a cab or water taxi to get there). I would also recommend going to the hot springs for a mud bath and also going for a ziplining tour of the rain forest. We did an "all island" tour that was amazing and included the Pitons, the hot springs, and other villages of the island. It was very inexpensive but so great. There is a sandals resort (or 2) there but I prefer to not do the all-inclusive because I think it forces you to get out and explore the culture. St. Lucia is gorgeous and not over-run with tourists.A prefect place to relax and start your married life together!

  • I went to St. Lucia in December a few years ago and it was amazing.  We did the all inclusive at a Sandals which we enjoyed because we could pop over to any of the other Sandals resorts (with a free shuttle)... althought we found plenty to do at our location (the Sandals Grand).  The weather was gorgeous... 80s most days and perfect beach/pool weather.  We did the ziplining tour that the PP mentions and it was a blast!!  We did some other tours, but that's the one that stands out.

I have not been to Hawaii, but I have heard AMAZING things... Good luck!
  • My fiance & I are having the same dilemma. We are getting married this Sept and are tring to choose a honeymoon. We are looking at Staying at Sandels for 5 days and then staying for another 5 on the other side at Jade Mt. In Hawaii we are thinking of staying in Kaui & Maui. Either look amazing. What did you guys choose.
  • We have not decided yet!!! We actually went to a travel agent and got both potential trips planned. . . They actually came out to the same cost, but Hawaii included the excursions whereas St. Lucia at a Sandals did not, but included the food/drinks. The potential excursions our agent booked us for in Hawaii sound amazing and the islands she has us going to are Oahu, Maui and Kaui. The thought of being pampered to the extreme at Sandals sounds fabulous, but I am just worried we would be passing up an opportunity to go explore Hawaii while we have the time/funds now. What are you leaning towards? You will have to keep me posted on your decision :)
