Mediterranean Honeymoon ideas?

We are planning to do our Honeymoon in April/May/June 2012 timeframe... we are kind of flexible.  I am a bit overwhelmed by options for our Honeymoon and wanted to solicit advice/ideas from others who may be planning to go somewhere in the Meditteranean region, or who have been.

Thanks so much!

Re: Mediterranean Honeymoon ideas?

  • I absolutely LOVE Greece!  And, next time I go, I definitely plan to do the Turkish coast as well--its absolutely beautiful.  Definitely consider some of the smaller islands--I spend a week on Samos (it's small, near the Turkish coast), and it was super relaxing (not many tourists, not a huge party atmosphere).  Great beaches.

If you're willing to get more adventurous, I hear Croatia is beautiful (that's my next trip I think), and Bulgaria (on the Black Sea) is also amazing.
  • Capri.  It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been!

You can take the ferry from downtown Naples.
  • Have you thought of doing a cruise?  That way you can visit multiple places in the Mediterranean all in one vacation.  It might be an option worth looking at.

  • We did a Mediterranean Cruise and loved it. It stopped so many places and saw so many amazing things. It was a lot and very fast, but if it's your first time to Europe its a great way to see some of the major sites and it will give you an idea where you'd like to go back to. That being said of the places we stopped we LOVED Avignon, France. It's a beautiful, old, small town in southern France. Home to the Pope's palace, definitely worth a visit AND about 30 minutes outside of Avignon is the village of Chateauneuf fe pape known for its wines.

We also really liked the Almafi Coast and the Isle of Capri. You can stay in Sorrento or Almalfi and take a boat over to the Isle for the day. The gardens and views are spectacular.

  • You're not being very specific: what do you want to get out of your trip? Beaches? Parties? Culture? Cities? Countryside? Everything and more is available in the Mediterranean, for every budget.

If your budget is tight, Spain and Portugal are much more feasible than Italy and Greece. And I like Spain and Portugal better. Porto and the surrounding area are stunning in Portugal, Andalusia and Barcelona are not to be missed in Spain.

If you're flexible, try to travel in May, the weather will be best. Not too hot, but warm and sunny. Try to go as long as you can :)
