Anyone Ever Consider Having

Has anyone considered having your dress made?  A co-worker of mine knows how much trouble Im having finding a dress and suggested this.  She did this for her wedding and not only saved a bundle but had a dress made just for her.  Does anyone know someone that does this?  Thoughts?Thanks much!

I have heard that you do save money, but I would think it's worse  because you have no idea if the dress will be as you want it until it's way too late! That's why I didn't consider it. I would have to have a LOT of trust in the person making the dress and even then I'm not sure if I'd be satisfied!

The thought has crossed my mind but since I have no idea who I could trust to create the perfect gown, I have continued my search at bridal shops. Let me know if you find someone though.

It depends.  Getting dresses made never works for me because they never turn out the way I pictured it. Maybe if you found someone who specializes in making wedding gowns and you know exactly what you want and can explain it well, it could work for you.

I would have asked my mom to make my dress but 2 things stopped me:- She doesn't listen when I make a sugestion or request. The last time I tried while she was making a dress for me, FI had to step in and voice my opinions.. miraculously, she listened to him, but not me eventhough I had just said the same exact thing. lol- I too wondered if I would like it enough to wear on wedding day because I'm so indecisive.I hate that I spent $600 on a dress to wear for a few hours. I'm 90% sure I'm going to shorten and dye it after the wedding.

A friend of mine did this because the one she liked was expensive. It came out beautiful... but it was an exact copy of something she knew she loved and not a random creation which is harder to come up with.

The dental hygienist at my dentist had her dress made in Miami...a Monique replica. She said it was great but that she more or less had to hold the dress makers hand through every single decision. Which I would rather do than let the dress maker go wild. I have thought about it many, many times and think its a great idea if you have an idea of what you want but havent found it yet. I had my Bat Mitzvah dress made and that came our perfectly lol!
