General etiquette question

My sister and brother in law gave my fiance and I their outdoor Patio set since they are buying a new set. The set is still in very good condition, only 5 years old.

Is it appropriate to buy them something to show our appreciation?   I was thinking a bottle of scotch for my brother in law.  That's what he drinks...

Thanks!

A nice, hand written, thank you note should suffice, I would think.  If you do get them a 'thank you gift' it should be able to be used and enjoyed by both of them.  Does your sister drink scotch too?

IMHO, it's not like they are buying you a brand new set.  While it's awesome that the set you are being given is in good condition, it is still a hand-me-down.  Very nice of you to think about acknowledging their generosity though!

Thank you Pamela!  I decided not to buy them anything... Both my fiance and I will have plenty of opportunities to show our appreciation in the upcoming months before our wedding... we did graciously thank them.  Plus, we did them a favor as well... taking their furniture got it out of the way for them.
