Ok so as most of you saw in my post from this morning, we went to Eddas and Divine Delicacies for our cake tastings today.Let me preface by saying I'm NOT a cake person. I never eat the cake at weddings, I'm not a huge fan of sweets in general so I didn't think I'd really care what the cake tasted like but I was wrong. I want yummy cake for my wedding. Ha.So... here's my feedback/ reviews from today's experience. Eddas: We started there and I have to say... overall we were disappointed in the taste of the cakes we tried. We tried a bunch of flavors.... Vanilla Rum, Chocolate, Lemon, Marble, Orange, Pina Colada, Red Velvet and Guava. The Red Velvet and Guava were both upgrades that would have cost us more but we didn't like either of them. I was especially disappoitned in the red velvet since that was what we were hoping to chose (and possibly pay more for) but it was completely tasteless and then the frosting was just TOO rich and TOO Sweet. The Guava just wasn't our thing. The Orange and Pina Colada tasted GROSS to me. We also Didn't really care for the marble one.Matt really liked the Lemon and I really liked the Vanilla Rum, and we both agreed the Chocolate was pretty good so if we WERE to go with Eddas, those would be the flavors we would chose but honestly, I wouldn't say I was crazy about them AT ALL. I wouldn't like, LOOK FORWARD to eating that cake, it was more like those were the best of the options if we were FORCED to chose. As for the design, we spoke with a lady there named Esther who we liked a lot b/c she really seemed to get the vision and what we wanted for the cake so I honestly TRUST them to do a good job w/ the design which is definitely a good thing. Because of that I'd normally be tempted to book Eddas but I'm not sure if I can get over the taste of those cakes and get on board with them. They just weren't that good.Divine Delicacies: We went there next and we tried a bunch of flavors there. The cakes here were MUCH better tasting in my opinion. Their red velvet was really really good, we really liked the marble cake, and we also really liked the Key Lime flavor. Those would be the ones we'd chose if we went with them.We were disappointed in the Godiva Chocolate one it tasted kind of dry and bland. The Lemon cake was good but not amazing. The Vanilla was just alright. But on the whole, these cakes tasted a lot better. So I THOUGHT we'd be good BUT...The issue is how much they wanted to charge us to upgrade. First they charge upgrades for the Red Velvet and the Key Lime flavors... ok fine, BUT then they are charging almost $200 to do a custom design for us (i'm not sure if Eddas was charging for the custom design too) Our "custom" design couldn't be more simple if it tried. It's basically our invitation design. Nothing crazy. Also we saw them bring out a cake for a customer, it was probably a shower cake or engagement party cake and it honestly looked pretty shoddy and the customer didn't seem happy so Matt was worried about whether or not they'd be able to execute our "custom" design, even though it's fairly simple. So we left there and thought about it.Either we get a pretty cake from Eddas that tastes just ok, or a yummy cake from DD that might come out looking funky and will cost a lot in upgrates... So in summary, we're not sure what to do. We should have done a tasting with Ana Paz but I originally said no b/c I didn't like the cakes I tasted of hers a bridal show. Now I think since we were already down there, we may as well have gone. Oh well. I think I want to talk to the coordinator at the Epic about possibly getting a credit for our cake and going to an outside vendor like Eddible Creations or We take the cake or something. (assuming we like their cakes better)We should have gone to try Ana Paz too but we didn't. I hadn't liked the samples of hers at a bridal show so that's why I ruled her out but we MAY give her a try since we're not sure about these other companies.I am definitely bummed but what can you do?Sigh... Such a waste of calories
