When To Send Out Invitations

My daughter's wedding is 2-26-11 and we're having trouble deciding when to send out the invitations.  Everything I read says 6-8 weeks.  We are having a lot of OOT guests so I was aiming for 8 weeks.  But that would be the end of December, right around Christmas.  I hate the thought of them getting lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas.  I was going to mail them around December 15th but my family keeps telling me this is too early.  What do you girls think?  Is anyone else getting married that weekend, and if so, what are you doing?  Thanks!

I don't think it is too early to send them Dec 15th, the sooner the better I think.

I'm staggering mine... I didn't do STDs and I'm having a bunch of OOT as well so I'm actually sending my overseas invites within the next two weeks (so about 5 months out) because those people like to get their tickets early (and realistically should have sent them a month ago, but I'm a slacker.) The regular OOT invites I was thinking of sending about 3 months before and I figured I'd wait until 2 months before to send local invites.

I agree that December 15th should be perfect to mail out the invitations!  How exciting!

Our daughters share the same wedding date. My daughter sent out save the date cards this summer since most of our guests are from out of state/country. Our invitations have been ordered and are now at the calligrapher getting addressed. We plan on sending them out on Monday, Dec 27th. I don't want to send them out before Christmas because I don't want them mixed in with all the Christmas card deliveries. The RSVP date will be Jan 28th. That way it gives us time follow up on those that didn't send their RSVP cards, since we have to give a final count to the wedding planner and caterer 2 weeks before the wedding.
We are getting closer, aren't we? It is so exciting!

Thanks everyone!  It was good to hear from my Pennsylvania friend!  My invitations are all addressed and stuffed, but not sealed.  We used a response date of January 20th.  I am still torn between before Christmas or right after as you suggested.  We also sent out Save The Dates.  All of the advice was helpful and I'm sure we'll figure it out!  And yes, it is exciting, but scary too!  I keep feeling like I am forgetting something important!
