marriage license

Hello ladies and a Happy New Year to you all!!

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a marriage license in GA and get married here in Miami?  My FI has already moved to Atlanta, where we are starting life together, and it would be much easier if we got the license there and then had our wedding in Miami in February.  Does anyone know if that's possible?  I checked the Miami-Dade County Clerk's website, but didn't see anything that addresses this topic, in particular.

Thank you!

Re: marriage license

  • No. To get married in FL, you need a FL marriage license. It doesn't matter what county it comes from though.
  • You have to get it in FL.  If you both are non-FL residents there is no waiting period to get married after obtaining your license though.  DH and I got our less than 48 hours before we got married.

  • OK.  Thanks for the insight.  Will get working on that appointment with the county!
  • Why doesn't he want to get the license here? Does he have a warrant, or is he on parole? I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful at all! I have a family member who was in a similar situation and what you wrote sounded a lot like that. Just so you know, there is no parole/warrant check at the courthouse when obtaining a ML here in Miami. You do not even have to be a resident to get one. You can pay a small fee to waive the waiting period, and get married right away. Reserve a spot in advance, if you know you are going to pay the fee. That way you are certain to get in at a convenient time. I hope this helps, and good luck!
