Where to Print DIY invitations

Never done this ... so any tips would be greatly appreciated! Where did people print them? With your own printer or kinko??? TIA

Re: Where to Print DIY invitations

  • I'm really torn between doing it with an at home printer, going through Paper Source (where our invites are from) or going to something like Staples (the woman at Paper Source almost had a heart attack when I mentioned this option.) This post was kind of helpful for me: http://apracticalwedding.com/2011/04/how-to-print-your-own-wedding-invitations/

The Paper Source woman also gave me some tips for at home printing, she said to stay away from any metallic cardstock as it's super difficult to run through the printer (theirs was like cardboard). If I really wanted metallic she suggested using a lighterweight metallic, then affixing that to a heavier cardstock. I'm trying to be laid back about the invites since it wasn't high on our budget priority list, so I'm just going with a classic cream for the response cards and cutting them down to size with a paper cutter (another one of her suggestions, she said it's really difficult to get the small 4 bar sized pieces of paper to print right on a home printer).

    Rambly, I know, but HTH!
  • I used Vistaprint.com.  I was happy with the invites overall.  However, I thought the envelopes were flimsy and I paid for the 'better' ones.  The letter ink was not bad, but if you choose to have a solid color on the back of the cards then the ink is light.   Most websites will send you a sample so you can be sure that you like their work.
  • I was just thinking about this! It' s nice to know I'm not the only crazy person attempting to do this lol.

The link posted by eke07 helped a lot! Thanks :)

  • Many brides print their invites using their own printers. For our DIY invites we couldn't do that so we went to Office Max and got them done there. It was a pain in the butt because their paper size options. If I could would do it again I would have just had them printed by the place I got the paper from rather than doing it myself. It would have saved us time and patience lol.
  • I have a background in print production, so I was very critical when it came to whether or not we'd print the invitations ourselves or have them done professionally; I went the local printer route.

I've also learned of other brides use vistaprint to do theirs as well. I'd recommend you print a sample of 10 invites from Staples/Kinkos, VistaPrint and a local printer. And determine which one looks better.

  • I used wishing tree designs - they had a groupon and I got the escort cards and all the invitations for $50!  They came out perfect.  I did a lot of DIY on it - made the pocket fold, put a ribbon around it, added a peacock feather.  Plus, I didn't do return RSVP cards (it's on our wedding website).  But, overall - I"m a  happy camper with how it all turned out!
