July 2012 Weddings

Introduction

Sorry, I just started posting here without introducing myself. I figure I should probably go ahead and tell you guys a little about myself.

Our Wedding
FI and I are getting married the 21st at a my aunt and uncles beach home that I practically spent every summer and most holidays at. We got engaged at my grandmothers beach home which is about 15 minutes from there. It has been my dream since I was little to get married there. I thought I had been pretty quiet about the fact but once we got engaged it was a given. I didn't even have to ask my aunt and uncle.

We're planning a vintage/victorian style reception. Chandeliers in the tent, candelabras on the tables, lace, trunks, vintage furniture lounge, jewels, candles... Our cocktail hour will be under a gazebo with lawn games around.

How We Met
FI and I met when he was my boss *gasp*. I was going to quit after a week working there because they promised me a certain wage but once hired paid another... yeah. He's lucky I was head over the heels the first time I saw him! We were glued together immediately. I'm just so happy to spend the rest of my life with him. We've been together 6 years and I still catch myself looking at him wondering how I wound up with such a great guy.

Our Pets
We have 3 cats... read the post below about their neuroticism...

Anyhoo enough about me... tell me something about yourself!

Re: Introduction

  • Welcome!

We've doing a similar thing with our venue, which is an estate house - chandeliers and draping in the outside tent, candelabras on tables, vintage furniture from my mom's home, lots and lots of candles, lace on our invitations, etc. So, I love your ideas!

And don't worry - I met my fiance on Spring Break. Weirder things have happened than falling in love with your boss :)

HA love it! Sounds like we're theme twins. Are you DIY at all?

  • Re DIY - I'm trying to!

I'm doing our Seating Chart on a very large intricate gold mirror (writing it out by hand if possible) and then I'm using chalkboard paint on a large mirror to write out our menu for an easel for the entryway into the tent (rather than menus at each seat, which get thrown out).

    Here are the photos:

What about you? I think it's fun to think creatively, but I'm not THAT creative and I don't want it to look juvenile. My best quality is my handwriting, for sure :)

Yep! The bay area. Are you originally from Seattle? My FI and I LOVE taking weekend trips up there (or we did before every extra penny started going towards the wedding, haha).

Totally obsessed with the lounge furniture idea btw. I considered renting some but I don't think I'm going to splurge on it. Are you planning on re-selling it after the wedding or what?

  • Yes, I've lived here my entire life. I almost moved to your area but stayed because I just met FI. I went to college in eastern wa so I kinda got out of the area but not really... I'm planning on selling the furniture after the wedding. Take for example the dresser/vanity I got for table cards. It cost me $15 at goodwill but I will sell for $50 becuase each handle costs at least $5/piece. I'm not trying to rent furniture even thought i thought that was the way to go just because I'd hate to pay for an antique couch that someone spilled red wine on...

  • Welcome to the board date twin.  Fi and I have been together for 6 years as well and we're also having a vintage theme tent wedding.

  • Welcome to the board! Your wedding sounds like it'll be really beautiful. We are doing a lot of vintage inspired details, as well. It seems like that stuff is everywhere now, but oh well! Our cocktail hour is half outside, half in a barn and the reception is inside an art museum that used to be an old whiskey distillery. My FI and I live in the UK right now and have gotten really into whiskeys, so we love that detail.

Oh, and 'm also on this board kind off times, b/c of living in the UK. I'm from Washington, DC and getting married in Baltimore, though.

Best of luck planning and stick around the board!

P.S. My FI would love your TK name!
